BROCKS CLUTCH MOD
Got my clutch mod from fellow member Bently yesterday. What a deal and super fast shipping!!!!! I had no intentions of installing it yesterday but after doing a search on the board and seeing the better E.T.’s that smoking and all the other guys who have done this mod have managed to ascertain I was like f---, break out the tools. I had about two hours before Monday Night Football and I read it only take about an hour. Well that’s an hour undisturbed. Well it took me about 2-2.5hrs as start to finish. This includes going to AutoZone and seeing the did not have the oil I wanted, the going to Wal-Mart to get the oil, and pick up dinner and a couple of friends coming over to distract/help me. I will add that those who do this mod be prepared to lose a little oil. I think with the bike on the stand and pulling the clutch cover I loosed maybe a .5-1 quart worth of oil. I never loss that much oil on my 06 zx14 or my zx12’s pulling the clutch cover. It could be because I mainly changed the clutches on those bike with the bike on the kick stand and not a rear swing arm stand. Luckily I had a pan underneath there or I would have still been doing a BP in my garage. Anyway seeing that oil made me decide to do an oil change. This is my second oil change. The first was done at 600 mile and this was is at 1970. My oil was pretty black to my surprise. The bike has seen I would say 1965 road miles and the other have been hard quarter mile passes. Probably about 15 total passes. Anyways clutch mod and oil change running to AutoZone and Wal-Mart, and my local hibachi grill took about 2 hours. Went out for a quick test run and the clutch felt really strong. I will put it to the test tomorrow night at the track and see if I pick up anything. The D/A should be nice and cool so I expect to see some improved number either way. Brocks online instruction were perfect. I did everything down to zip tying the old springs. If you don’t have one I recommend going out and buying a craftsman cordless impact gun. I refuse to buy and air tank until I move into my new house but this thing is amazing. I have had it for about 8 months and it has turned changing tires on my car, race car, trailer, and even getting the clutch basket nut off to a synch. I got mine on sale for about 150 I think and it had been a great investment. Not to mention you can use it to drive big bolts and screws like when I was hanging some fence boarding. Anyways the jury is out on the mod but if it nets results anything like everyone else has received, I expect great reviews. I will let you know what I see Thursday…

Cliff, super easy install.. I hope the gains is worth the effort. I would add that is it was a perfect world and you had the extra cash might as well freshen up the clutches while you are in there, lol. I don’t know what I was thinking though my clutches seem to work flawless at the moment I hate the idea of double work. Wish I had ordered a fresh set to go in the belly while I was performing surgery

Thanks Bishop.....Here's my theory, every bike I've ever owned has benefited or just felt better when we strengthened the clutch with either stronger springs, shims or in the case of the 1270, both. We'll be pulling the clutch cover off for paint anyway. Did you remember to put a little silicon seal on the 10 & 3 o'clock bolts - they thread right thru the engine case and given time, can sometimes leak a little oil.

What was the previous mph and et? I picked up over a 10th of a second in the 1/8th mile and up to 3 mph with Brocks clutch mod.. Watching the results, keep us posted....

No sir i sure didn't.. If i don’t get any leaks I will make sure to do it when i change the clutches. Speaking of the old zx12 can you tell me what has changed in the 14 vs. the zx12 when it come to clutch basket. I mean i know we now have a hydraulic clutch but with the power we are putting down with these 14's the stocker sure would have shattered by now on a zx12. I Shattered mine on a track day my very first pass

I've had my clutch cover off 4-5 times on my 14r, no silicone on mine and no leaks.

You shouldn't, just remove the cover slowly and be careful not to rip the gasket.

Recieved Brock's clutch kit today - very well done, I could not have machined it better myself. We'll get it in next month.
Cheers,

Picked up about 10th last night. Bike ran its fastest mph 151. This was leaving at about 1500 rpms. The first past the clutch seem to be toooooooo tight but after a few passes they seem to loosen a little. One of the best mods done yet and it really should help when I start to spray in the next week or so

About 68.5... we got it up to 2500 by the med of the night. I'm telling you the bike was still standing up at the 60ft we ran our best times still on the stocker we would leave at 4500... I think as the clutch loosens and I get use to it I will be back to a 4500 to 5000 rpm launch

The clutch should be smooth with Brocks clutch mod, are you sure the riders aren't popping the clutch at the 60'?

I'm sure I am one of them the clutch is smooth I guess as you would say I guess because it not any slip and it all go now and the bike is getting all it's power to the ground with minimal parasitic losses through the clutch. Like I sad we knocked. About 1.5 tenth of our best e.t.
