Poll Question:
Is it worth it?

I have over 20k miles on my 14 and I'm wondering if I should spend the money to do motor work and programming to get more power? I have v-stacks and BMC race filter, shud I get them installed and get the bike programmed? or just try to get a 14r.

Thank you all!

If I had the money to get a new one, I would.
For the $6,000 difference, you can make your bike a lot faster than a new one.

We all want the new bike but I am a cash buyer and dont tote any notes. Buying a new bike or car seems to be easier when you dont mind payments. My bike was very clean still and I couldnt make myself buy a new one when I knew what it would cost to make more power. But new bikes give no headaches...

The only major difference with the 14R is more motor....if you can build yours for less than it would to sell yours, buy a new 14r....then I'd buy a new 14R. But I'm guessing you would not come close to the price of a new bike...so build you a nice, sleeper motor and go hunting new 14R's.

Hall on the westbank has a used zx14r for $9xxx with only 900 miles. Sure you can sell yours for 5-6K and then the diff is only 4k-ish. I'm tempted but only ride once a month currently.

I think its a great deal

Rajun Cajun:

Ultimately this is a question of your $ and preferences. I had an '07 which I loved, but the overall upgrades to the...total package that the 14R is makes it a substantially improved bike. For me, no way I would prefer the '07 to the '12. That said, everything depends on what you want.

No doubt you could get more speed cheaper with your '06 built, but would that satisfy ALL your desires for how you will ride the bike and offer the reliability of a new bike that makes big power totally stock? For alot of guys, a built gen 1 is the choice and for the rest of us, the 14R is it, either way you win.

Have fun bro.

Ragun Cajun:

Your welcome. Just a random thought. Do you know anyone who has a 14R you could take a spin on? My guess is that if you ride one, your decision will be made. Much more than just bigger motor to the new bike. Whatever you decide, I think you will end up happy.

Good luck

Motor work- do the SS head w/47mm throttle bodies on MR12 and you'll see a 20-25 HP gain.

Yea I agree, the ss head and throttle bodies are the best bang for the buck.

We do alot of them. We actually have some 47's in stock now. There usually gone before we even get the batch done.

But a 2mm bore and cnc ported head and cams will walk all over a ss engine. And its still cheeper than a new 14r. But you wont have traction control.
