Quick question about rear sprocket.

So I was flushing coolant today and took some time to oil up the chain. Saw one of the rubber seals completely coming out :-( I'm @ 15,000 mi and I guess it's just that time. I searched and saw EK ZZZ is still the strongest chain out there so I will go with it. I like the stock gearing since I ride with the lady a lot and I want steel sprocket for the rear to last a while.

I have a question about the rear (i'll get the stock for the front) and I was hoping you guys chime in. I was wondering if I should go stock brand or is there anything better. I was looking @ the Vortex steel stuff - looks cool though stock's been workin out real good so far...

Anyway any help would be appreciated.

Cheers!

zzz chain and stock sprockets for you riding style sounds to be the best ticket ...The votec steel for the rear is a good way to go also .. For the front use the stock kawi sprocket with the rubber damper ... The front votec is also a great sprocket but is a bit noisy because it has no damper like the stock Kawi unit ..

Any major manufacturer like Sprocket Specialties, Vortex, Sun Star will provide great service in steel, in fact some OEM's use Sun Star.

I'd check pricing, all are good quality.

It may be about time for a chain sprocket change for me as well. I have the ZZZ chain as well. Love it. Had it for about 3 years. I'm primarily a street rider with an occasional 2nd gear roll on and sometimes a dead stop launch. Will an aluminum rear sprocket hold up if you're making 220 + at the rear or is it better to stick with a steel sprocket and when do u know for sure when it's time to change the chain?

Wear on the teeth. They start to get that 'hook' on the end.
Excessive noise/rattle,chatter. And more than normal chain adjustments.

Steel wears harder lasts longer, Alum wears quicker, but is lighter... Less inertia etc.

AFAIK, the sprockets should always be changed with the chain.

If one of the three (Front - Chain - Rear), is worn, it tries to make the other parts 'fit' to it.

Check out Supersprox. For what you are looking for with stock gearing (17/41), they offer a package deal with sprockets and chain with a...lifetime warranty. I am running their 41 tooth steel sprocket on my '12 SE.

Good luck,

Thanks guys! Appreciate the help! I found the chain for very decent price. About supersprox - I don't know about the 14 sprockets but I have seen a good bit of failures on the zx-10 site broken teeth etc .. so it makes me a bit nervous. In any case I like the look of the vortex ;-) Cheers!
