16T Issues

Yesterday I replaced the front sprocket with a 16. The bike is completely stock with 7600 miles on it. Took it out and noticed right away that around 1800rpm to 2500rpm that the bike ran like shit and alot worse if you were pulling a grade.

You can blast thru that rpm range and probably not notice anything if your racing, but say you get behind a car that takes the same turn as you on a slight grade going uphill... Well the bike just wants to buck you off. I would consider def unsafe in certain conditions and like someone said here it can be a handful in 1st and 2nd in some turns Couldnt detect it in 3rd but of course its hard to get the rpm range where it needs to be in the upper gears without lugging the fck out it. Now of course if theres no traffic where you live or you use the bike for drag racing then theres a damn good chance you wont notice it.

Be warned tho if you are pulling a grade, slow traffic where your forced to follow without the option of passing then you will most likely feel and hear the bike surge, buck or whatever else you want to call it.

Im throwing the bike back on the lift and going back to the stock 17. This is clearly one of those mods that ruins the smoothness of the 14R at low speed which Im not willing to sacrifice cause theres alot of traffic here where I live and having the fcking thing buck is not worth it.

Creeps.

So is this the same issue that I am having with my 07 ZX14, sounds the same. So if I put the 17t back on would it stop I wonder eaven if the back gearing is changed to 42 teeth?

I'm sure this is going to be a stupid question. can I use a busa rear vortex sprocket on a zx14? I'd really like to see if my ECU stumbles with a sprocket change and my buddy has all sorts of rear sprockets for his busa.

I believe this is a 14R problem, the stumble you feel is probably the flies, map or chain tension. This is something to do with the KTRC even thouhg KTRC is OFF all the time....

BTW, someone posted on the other forum something similar....

The fix is simple. I had the same thing to fix it go up 1tooth on the rear sprocket and it balances it right out. I tried to tell them that on bikeland but i was kicked out. But i found the fix. The ecu needs the rear sprocket raised one tooth to balance it out and read it right. When i went down one up front it would stumble down low. Removed it and went more teeth in the rear and it ran like shit at four grand. Keep the sprocket in the back raised one and lowered the front again and perfect. Try it out. People like smokin say their bike runs fine because it does because they have lowered in tbe front AND raised in the back. Try it you'll see.]/quote]
The poster stated with a 16T front, going up +1 in the rear solved his problem. In other words going up +4 teeth in the rear (17/46) might solve it also (same ration at 16/43)
I have personally tried a 43 & 44 tooth with 17t front and it still stumbles.... People with 16T front have also felt the stutter, not sure if anyone has a 43T rear to "confirm" that the stutter disappears with a 16T front & 43T rear. Shit anyone with a 14R & a 46T laying around please throw it on to test it out.

Million dollar question is "Does your bike stutter with 17-43 on it?" Some do and some don't, if your bike don't then you are one of the lucky ones

Never ran the 17-43. First thing I did to the bike was 16-44 and lower and stretch and removed the flies a week after I got it in January. Sent the ecu to get flashed when it became available in feb. and sent it back for the reflash last month. Never had any issues
