Is it really nesecery to wait 600 miles before opening her up?

Just bought a new 14r a few days ago traded in my 09 zx14 and I don't think I waited 600 miles
To open that one up and it had over20k miles on it with no problems so do you guys really wait
That many miles? Sure seems overkill to me but I don't want to damage anything maybe I just
Got lucky on my old one I don't know. Thanks

I didn't spin mine deep into the red zone until it had about 33 miles on it. Wish I had done it sooner.

Mark, each to their own.... I have never blown up a bike in the past 15 years and if I did... it certainly would not be Kawasaki's fault.

you guys will never get me to believe that bullshit. You ever heard of the word Temper.Thats exactly why new engines pick up a few more h/p from say 100 miles to 3 to 4000 miles on a dyno. A lot of times 5 h/p.. If you want that engine to last for 50 to 100 k miles take it slow for the first 500 then change the oil and filter. For the next few 100 start to slowly stretch the rpm `s in multiple gears towards redline.Don`t put a heavy torque load on it yet .By 8 to 900 miles bang red line all you want.Take lots of rides where you get to let the engine cool down waiting for the 8 to 900 miles to roll around. The more the better. You are Tempering the metals for years to come................It`s your money.

You really believe that? Tempering metal requires temperatures way beyond any your motor hopefully ever sees. You gain horsepoweer as internal friction is reduced from polishing of bearing surfaces, pistons, rings, bore etc. as the engine breaks in. That said I also break in engines more slowly than some have posted.

I think i got a dud from the factory. its always had a noise when cold from day 1. ran good at 1st, but now seems to be slowing. i could just twist the throttle in 3rd and it would powr wheelie. now it barely does it in first. the oil looked like crap at 500 miles, same at 1000, now at 1500 mile change looks shitty metallic? my old 06 never even discolored the oil. boy i miss that bike. ran fastest pass right b4 the sale. its a good thing i hardly ride it anyways.

Mark, Do you have any extra of whatever you are smoking? It must be good! Just kidding of course.... Seriously though this is one of the most debated topics, so do whatever you think is right. Personally, I buy a new bike every 3-4 years... That's why I get the 4 year warranty... to beat the shit out of it with no regret or remorse..... Trade it in and get the latest and greatest. Each to their own.

just curious. if your bike was down on power what would a warranty help? they dont have a way of determining if it is, and they wouldnt help you if they could. the only way of the dealership to warranty something is if its windowed, or visibly cracked. its really fucked up on that side.

Mark you do know your bike was put on the dyno at the factory ? Well it was and then put in the crate ... There is a Kawi factory video floating around showing them dyno EVERY bike before being crated .. They WOT the Motor to the limiter ..

I think manufacture breakin procedure may have something to do with safety for the new rider, can you see a breakin procedure telling the new owner to leave the dealership and redline the bike asap for proper breakin?

as long as it has a couple heat cycles up to temp, and fully cools, go ahead and thrash on it IMO. vary the throttle a lot. the track day reference was a good one, another analogy would be to drive it like a harley from bar to bar

never ever beat on a motor unless the oil is hot.
