Did the busa get an engine upgrade without us knowing? This is the second time that I have seen it staying within 15 or so HP from the 14R. When they compared it to the 2011 it was at least 25HP.
What Gives?

That horsepower number is just a little high for a Gen II Busa. In stock form, they tend to average around 175 at the tire. The manufacturer's certificate of origin for a 2008+ Busa states 194.4 crank horsepower.
My 08 made 189 at the tire with a TiForce 4-2-1-2 system, Pipercross race filter, and a PC3.

Anybody but me think that maybe Suzuki sent a "ringer" to this test? .1 and less than 2 MPH difference in a 1/4 mile? Which any drag racer knows can be the difference between the same bike on two different passes. Or maybe Suzuki does a LOT more advertising with them than Kawasaki does. Just very suspect in my opinion. Magazines are not above skewing results because of lucrative advertising deals.

The British mags do not skew results like the American rags do. If it's a turd, they tell you it's a turd. One of the reasons I only read Brit mags now.
Pick up a copy of BIKE, Performance Bikes, Fast Bikes, Practical Sportbikes, Etc...and you'll wonder why you ever read an American motorcycle magazine. Tons more content, and the writing is off the charts better than the crap we get here. In other words, the articles do not read like a manufacturers press release and you don't have to thumb through 30 pages of ads just to get to an article.

Gotta tell you beyond the objective measurements, you have to read the whole article, (then even better a comparo to BMW S1000rr in the same edition), to get the whole story. I have never owned a bike where, after testing or riding, 100% of the reviewers leave with such admiration and sheer exhileration of riding this wonderful motorcycle. This one in particular said just what I would have suspected. That early on, on the track, the bike took some real adjusting, but after that, it was a very comendable bike on the track as well as the street. The adjectives used to describe the sheer thrust and power of this bike never end, all this by folks who've ridden them all and have access to the best. I honestly believe this is one of the top 10 motorcycles of all time for sheer fun and overall performance capabilities.

Some more great quotes from this article below:
"We swap bikes. I'm eager to experience what the 196HP Kawasaki feels like in the confines of Rockingham's oval. The answer is obvious-devastatingly fast. Shorter geared with even more power than the Hayabusa, the Kawi dvours ratios with relentless hunger. I've never experienced a road bike that accelerates with such force. It's all you can do to brace yourself against the violence. It wrenches your gut and skews your senses. A ZZR acclerates harder than a S1000rr when you need it to and does it with such heavy-cranked urgency that its hard for your mind to keep up. It steers well too.
"This is simply an amazing machine. So fluent, effective, and still easy to ride. Considering how heavy the bike is the brakes are astounding, pulling you up with composure and huge feel. Theres stability and solidity that you just don't get with a race replica.
"We've never ridden a bike that feels happier above 100mph."
"Which brings us to the question; which of these two bikes is the master of faster? The ZZR trumps the Hayabusa. The truth is the Kawasaki is simply the most powerful, ballsiest performance bike that has ever been built."
"There isn't a stock machine that can match it when it comes to power or performance. It isn't just the breathtaking top end. With it comes flexibility and midrange too. In a class that is all about who has the biggest one, this is the most well endowed motorcycle we've ever ridden. And it knows how to pound what it's got.
"Over this time the ZZR has proved itself to be devastating on the road, eating up local A-Roads and handling the track work with a kind of good grace that should be impossible for a machine that weighs over a quarter of a ton. This bike has the handling and braking to to run in the fast group of a trackday, as long as you can afford the tire bill. The Kawi is so smooth and accomplished that there is nothing that it can't do."

BTW...you won't find a manufacturers ad in the magazine. Lots of dealers, but no big corp crap.
