modified 2012 zx14 test ride runs too hot!!!!!!!
Hey guys, I'm back with a heating problemon a test ride report on the mods for my new 2012 zx-14. I have done every Brock Performance bolt-on mod to this bike, every power commander mod (as you know) new Mobil 1 4T synthetic oil and coolant additive. All levels seem to be correct (oil sits a 3/4 after 10 minutes) and coolant is at 1/2 on reserve tank. Radiator is topped off.
The test ride was done with no mid and lower fairings (fresh air hoses unplugged from plastic filter box on fairing) Brock's clutch mod works great, CT Megaphone is great, removed secondary flies, it idles around 1,200 rpm (a little higher than stock 1,100-1,150) no stumbling, Guhls ecu mod, lowered and all that jazz. Wideband 2, LCD 200 all works(except for the flashing 0000s with open/closed throttle- another issue),
HERE's THE PROBLEM. (Read the whole paragraph please) OAT is 80 degrees. Bike sounds fine, no engine noises, low rpm temp is around 174-178 deg average during the test ride. Highway speed with a few roll-ons to 8K bike goes up to 182-183 deg. Slow the rmp at 50mph to about 3.5K and the temp drops about 1-2 degrees. (should drop fast within a couple of seconds, but now takes quite a while; about 2-3 minutes). Slower riding the temp starts creeping up to 187-190 deg. Stopped for a car to pass (20 seconds) the temp rose to 197 and in the parking lot (10 mph) it immediately rose to 204 and the fan kicked on. Again, it was only 80 degrees and I brought it to 8,000 rpm twice on the ride in short bursts. The rest of it was very gentle. The bike, with no mid fairings, new oil and coolant additives, I would think would stay in the 160-170 range the entire trip which lasted about 10-15 minutes.
I bought the oil off of Amazon (conterfeit oil??????). Is this normal temp range for such a short ride??? I can't keep the temps at bay. They just creep up until the fan kicks on. I did not have this problem before all the mods but then again the oat at that time was 60-75 degrees.

You may find that it runs cooler with the lowers on, as crazy as that sounds, due to the lowers directing the air through the radiator. At any rate, the temps that you quote are nothing to worry about.
Btw, the bike will also run warmer when lowered, as the fender obstructs airflow to the radiator.

And if u take the inner fenders out it will run hotter also. I had to put mine back in and it went right back to normal

Thanks!!!!!! Yeah, The only fairing on the bike is the front. I'll try that. I just didn't want to put them all together if ther was something I needed work on with them off.
I'll try that.
FYI.................. It IS stupid fast with the Brock's mods!!!!!

It was 80 degrees here yesterday. Cruising around in slow traffic the temp on mine went up to 205. The fans turned on and it dropped it down to the mid 190's. Mine does this all the time in slow moving traffic. Just normal. Nothing to worry about.
And don't worry about Amazon. I've gotten Mobil 1 4T from them many times. It's the real thing.

Those temps sound about right. Mine will rise to high 180's and more when stopped. It doesn't take much time at a light for it to hit ~200 and the fans to kick on. even slow idling down my street and the temps will rise enough for the fans to come on as I pull in the driveway. Im not sweating it.

Thanks for all the feedback!!!!! You guys are great! I'll post some pics of the bike when I get it back together. Eventually I'll have my BST wheels on too.
