09 ZX14 Cooler thermostat
I dont think they make a cooler thermostat specifically for the ZX14 but is there another bike thermostat that will fit that is cooler?

I know this is a no-no but I removed the whole thermostat on the Monster 14 to try to make it run cooler. It didn't work. If there is a cooler theremostat that will work, I'm all over it. I'm tired of seeing all those bars on the temp gauge.

I'd try a different coolant, maybe engine ice & possibly add a second fan if your having an overheating issue. Also a zx10 fender allows more airflow to the radiator, it dropped mine 1-2 bars everywhere. I live where it's above 90 degrees 3/4 of the year & run regular coolant without trouble overheating. If you're just trying to run cooler & not overheating it would be interesting if a thermostat exists that's compatible.

It holds the temp in a certain heat range by opening or closing the water flow through the radiator. This is controlled by the spring in the thermostat which is calibrated to stretch or shrink at whatever temp needed to keep the motor in it's happy zone. If you put in too cold of a thermostat your motor won't reach optimum operating temp same as not having one in a cold climate..The problem with eliminating it is the coolant doesn't have enough time to cool down in the radiator if it continually runs through it when outside temps are high, This leads to a case of the temp continuing to rise unabated til it pukes out the fluid & your motor toasts. If a cooling system is inadequate for the heat generated then you must enhance it's cooling ability by adding extra fan(s) , Using more effecient cooling fluids or increasing it's airflow or in a exreme case replacing the radiator with a larger capacity one as you see on facory race bikes.

Using a low temp thermostat will not make you bike run cooler .. Running the right thermostat will .. The bike has the right one in it now ..
Many many years ago (40 years ago) my 68 gtx had a 192 Deg factory thermostat in place .. I said it runs too hot so i got a 180 and installed it and it ran even hotter that the 192 stat ..So i tried a 160 , hey it had 160 stamped on the box so it got to run cooler right ? Wrong , it ran even hotter that the 180 did .. Reinstalled a 195 and the car ran nice and cool .. Reason ? Well the water has to stay in the Rad to be cooled .. Only way to keep it in the rad longer is to have a hotter rated stat ... Right part for the right job ... The two ways to make a zx14 run cooler is add more rad volume or more air moving over the rad ...
These newer motors run much hotter than the older motor for a reason .. Heat makes HP , Heat helps meet EPA standards and MPG standards ..More heat to a POINT burns faster and cleaner and makes more power .. Most new engines run at 210+ Deg and will last 200,000 miles .. More wear happens at lower temps than higher temps .. New Syn oils helps also because they can deal with higher temps better than old dino oils .. Oil is also a coolant , add more coolant better cooling .. Worring about your ZX14 running hot ? well don't because it was made to do just that .. I'd worry more about a wet fart that a ZX14 running hot ..

nice work zixxer & smokin'
You saved me from typing all that.
Besides, i didn't KNOW all that!
But i do know that "putting in a cooler thermostat", or "removing the thermostat" do not make the motor run cooler.

The reason it won't run cooler by placing a lower rated thermostat is because the overheating point happens after the opening point of the thermostat. Opening the thermostat earlier does nothing to solve the issue. Removing the thermostat allows the fluid to move too quickly through the radiator for proper heat transfer to happen. You need to transfer heat away and that can only be done correctly by moving air or increasing surface area of the radiator.
Best way to do this if the bike is running hot while moving is the ZX-10r front fender swap. If its overheating at rest, then an extra fan will help. Also strapping the front too low will decrease available area for the air to reach the radiator as well.
Convert to E-85 and watch the bars drop when you twist the right side!
Good luck,

I have already switched to engine ice and the second fan is sitting on my coffee table and will be installed in the morning. I found a small hole in the radiator hose I am hoping that is the cause of the issue I got some sealant tape at the hardware store as a temporary fix but it didn't help. I also think part of the problem is the guy who built my turbo cut a small amount off the radiator so I think that is part of the reason it's overheating. I have owned enough 14's to know that they run hot but this is the first time the high temp warning has ever flashed on one of my 14's. At highway and cruising speeds
It is at the final bar before the h so one from the very top and when I slow down it stays there
But as soon as I stop and cut the bike off I hear the coolant start to boil and bubble then if I turn the key back on it is flashing high temp it has not boiled over yet but I don't want to risk it. I have ordered a new radiator hose and a new stock thermostat and will install the second fan tomorrow. Ordering the fender brackets for the zx10 fender now from TWW and am looking for a zx10 black fender that will work if anyone knows where to get one right now

That second fan should help and fixing the hose leak .. Some of problem is that big old turbo setting in front of the rad blocking the air flow ..That turbo is one big heat stink and the heat has to go somewhere , in your case right to the rad .. The extra fan and zx10 fender should fix it .. Also if you have a hose leak it will get hotter because it can't hold PSI in the Rad and motor.. A leak would be like having a 7 PSI cap and not a 16 PSI Cap .. When you raise PSI you raise the boiling point of the coolant .. Sounds like you are heading the right way .. Let us know how it works out ..

Both.
The ZX-10r fender is much smaller than the factory 14 fender thus allowing more air to reach the radiator.

When the guy shortened your radiator did he do it right? If he pinched off a bunch of tubes and stopped fluid from getting all the way through the radiator from the upper tank to the lower, then you're losing a LOT more flow (and cooling) than what it looks like from the outside.
I would be VERY suspect of a chopped radiator. My turbo kit clears my radiator fine, and with a second fan my bike runs cooler with the turbo than stock. I've never heard of needing to chop a 14 radiator for a turbo install.
A blown head gasket could also cause the overheating like you describe.....have you checked that out?
Can you post up a pic of your set-up for us?

Second fan and completely bled the radiator of air now it is running right where it should. I am going to go ahead and install the zx10 fender just to add a little more but replacing the hose and putting on the second fan did the trick. Thanks for the help guys

I've wanted to put a second fan on my bike for a couple years but haven't taken the time to do so becasue the temp gauge never maxed out on my bike till this year. Any pics of the second fan install? Are you using the stock fan and bracket assembly?

I got my second fan kit from Greg at HPC before he went under. The kit came with the fan, special type zip tie mounts that go through the radiator to mount the fan wherever you need to fit it, a larger amp fuse, and its wired into the stock fan wiring so comes on at the same time as the stocker. I think Schnitz sells the same basic set-up. Works very well
