Red wire to fused hot side, black wire to ground......

Turn it off when you dismount, and turn it on when you start the engine.

use a positive wire that is hot when the key is turned on, you wont have to worry about leaving the radar detector on when you park.

The feed to the brake light switch (front master cylinder) is both hot with the ignition and also very easily accessible !

Agreed, use the rear brake light as an auto-ignition based on & off. Great to get the Beltronics (upfront) remote light kit for their ST1 undetectable, then hide the main unit in the bodwork.

With juice, you need to know what's going on. The EGT's are instant, the A/F read-out is good confirmation, albeit after the fact.
