New Member Help needed - PLEASE

I am new here but a member else where as zx12rider (not avail here) and looking for a new ride. My last 2 bikes were the Triumph Sprint ST 1050 and for a short time the Aprilia Futura. I have my choices down to either a 2011-12 Hayabusa with a 4 into 1 pipe and the GSXR1000 tail conversion (the only way I would own a Hayabusa) or a ZX-14R with 4 into 1 pipe. I am 6'5" and love the twisties, so I am not looking for a drag bike but do not fit on the liter class bikes either. Basically I want a my sized 2008 CBR-1000 as I love the under seat exhaust and style of that year. As no bike made today is perfect for me I have the 2 choices mentioned.

1)2011-12 Hayabusa with the GSXR-1000 tail conversion and a 4 into 1 (thinking Brocks or Akrapovic)

or

2)2012 ZX-14r with 4 into 1 pipe

Basically I want a big guys track bike and not a drag bike. I'm 6'5" and 215 pounds. I look really stupid on a R1 or ZX-10 and other than the age (2005 design) and low power of the Triumph Sprint ST it was a pretty good bike for me. I don't like the new GT model with the more mellow changes. It seems the Hayabusa with the mods is lower weight and enough power for me, but I will hate if next year a new model comes out and my bike is dated.

PLEASE HELP me decide??????

My first statement is going to be... You are on zx14.com and ask us if you think a Busa is a better choice? (I will let you answer that one)
Ok, now on a serious note. There is nothing wrong with either bike. It's your personal preference. If it were me id get the new 2012 zx14R and be done with it.

Valid point

Valid point about the posting on ZX-14.com, but honestly everyone in my family likes the ZX-14r better by looks alone (and I am more of a Kawasaki guy but.....). I guess my reason for posting here revolves around my hopes that members here will be honest and let me know which will be better handling wise (we all know the ZX-14 rules power wise and is the better drag bike) I think based on factory weight and the savings by adding 4 into 1 pipes and in the Hayabusa's case the 25 pound savings with the tail kit which I am told saves 25 pounds, I could get the Hayabusa down to 525ish and the ZX-14r down to 560-565ish. What would you guys pick as a track bike???? Can anyone be non-biased?

your first post you say your not looking for a drag bike, now you ask us to pick a track bike? The Booza has enough power for you but you dont want it cause it will be dated if a new model comes out? Waiting for you next post.

Understood

I understand what you're thinking, but honestly I am just looking for some advise. Not everyone in the world is on the web trying to start some trouble (I'm a systems admin for HP). Look me up on Triumphrat as ZX12Rider or my other hobby AR-15.com as zx12rider. I am just torn on my next ride. I think both bikes are great and more power than I need. Being 6'5" I just don't have the options other have when it comes to bikes (same with cars). In my life these are the bikes I've owned.

1981 GS300
1987 SRX250
1982 Seca 550
1982 GS550
1988 Katana 1100 (one of my fav's)
1997 YZF1000R (also a fav)
2002 Aprilia Futura
2006 Triumph Sprint ST (another fav)

So you can see I am not brand bias.

If you like a certain literbike then get that and move the rearsets down and back. Between a boosa and 14 personaly (and obviously cuz I own one) the 14. Ive ridden the suzuki didnt like the handling. Of course the looks to me are not eye candy either. It all boils down to what you like. go to the dealership and look at each bike in person if you have not done so already

Not sure that's a answerable question...here.We all own and love our 14's.Be kinda hard to say..."yeah...I got a 14,but really,I should have gone with a Busa"...know what I mean? You're 6'5"...you don't fit a track bike(you say)...so....yer gonna need a bike that's gonna give ya miles of smiles.Get the 14R....now....You may never use the torque and HP...but it'll be a long time before ya get tired of it methinks!!!!

Besides...the 14R just rocks!Handles great for what you would want most likely. Two up....she's all that.

Here is my .02...The 14r is a brand new bike, the absolute best. The Busa hasnt been changed for a couple of years. In 2 years, I am sure Suzuki will have upgraded it to compete with the 14r. KHI probably wont update the 14r for a few years, until after Suzuki responds. So, if you buy a Busa now, you will regret that you didn't wait for the next gen. If you buy a 14r, your bike wont be outdated for several more years.
Summation: get the NEW 14r instead of the OLD Busa.

Thanks

venomous_zx gave me what I am looking for. The fact that he owns a ZX and didn't like the handling of the Busa. Lets be honest, both bikes are awesome. I want the handling bike of the 2 and if it's the ZX then I also get the most powerful bike to boot. I haven't riden either bike, and like the looks of the ZX more.

When it comes to these two it seems most aftermarket is for Drag bikes. Extended swing arms etc. I would want to lower the weight and increase the handling. So a pipe is the only thing I have seen for the ZX. Maybe I should start over and start a thread for what I can do to the ZX-14r to lower the weight and make it a track bike next week when I go buy my new bike.

Full exhaust and lithium batt will net about 40lbs of weight loss.
Drop the forks a few mm.
Raise the rear with a 190/55 tire, after market shock and/or links. I shortened a set of Brocks windows.
Have the suspension tuned by a pro.
Run a gearing combo that allows you to keep the axle as far forward as possible. Could go a step further and bolt up a '06-'11 factory arm, which is 10mm shorter.
Aftermarket rearsets... Put them all the way up and back for track days.
The new wheels, on the 14r, are lighter than the old wheels on the 14... but most (if not all) aftermarkets should be lighter yet.

Cool

DogoZX thanks. You have the right ideas. One reason I liked the GSXR1000 tail on the Hayabusa was it gave the liter class look of the tail rear and exposed tire. I was looking for options like that for the ZX-14r but didn't know I could do all of that. Is the swingarm swap a common mod? The most slicked down picture I can find of the new ZX-14r is this one, I have been using to compare the 2 bikes. I think I decided on the ZX-14r, so I am glad to know there are options for later down the road to drop some weight etc.

Before the new 1012 ZX14r came out, it was a difficult choice, the previous ZX14 struggled against the busa in the twisties, but was more comfortable and smoother.

But with the new ZX14r, it is a no brainer, IMO it is by far the best choice as it is far more advanced then the busa. As smoking said, for your applcation, I would be comparing the ZX14r with the ZX10 and the Beemer 1000rr, (obviously the 1 Litres would have to be adjusted to suit your larger frame), as they are all current in technology and design.

I have not bought yet due to shortage of funds.

The ZX14r has traction control as well as more power, But I have not yet read about how it compares in the curves, even though it has improved handling.

I am also not brand loyal, but buy what I think is the best on the day, I have generally ended up with Suzuki in the past, and for outboard motors, I was about to buy a Yamaha 200hp, until I read about corrosion problems, and for not much more money, ended up with a Suzuki 300hp.

If you haven't ridden either bike, I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the handling.... From what I understand the 2012 14rs handle noticeably better than a gen 1. I expected my 07 to handle like a tank when I got it, but once you get these bikes moving they are so well balanced that all the weight just melts away. Mine is extended six inches and I mix it up with guys on R6s and Gixxers all the time. I not only hold my own, but I stay right with them through the twisty bits. Hell, sometimes I have to stop and wait for some of the less experienced riders. I've never ridden any busa, but I hear they had the nod handling wise over the gen 1 14s but only just barely. With the new refined 2012 it should be even better.

I'm 6'6" and 225 lbs...I've had a 2006 ZX-14 since 2006. My brother has a 2006 hayabusa. I guarantee you will be much more comfortable on the zx-14. My bike is not stock, but the handle bar set up and Sato rearsets are set to stock positions. I love riding the twisties with my 14. I put on a set of light weight wheels and it made a world of difference in the handling department. The new 14R is the cat's @$$, but I like most bikes. A ten minute ride on a 14 will put a smile on your face and you'll wonder why you didn't buy one sooner.

If your buying new, then you want something you will not regret.

If you don't buy the R14 then every time you're out and see one, you'll wonder 'what if...".

It's pretty clear that the R14 worldwide is a major success.

With your weight and size. It has the TQ and HP to keep you happy for a long time.

Plenty of mods to come out (and currently out), for changing seats, tails, windscreens, risers and so on, so you can make it look what you want later.
