Tire Size & T/C
Hi all. New guy here with a 2012 ZX-14R and a question.
I recently came from riding Hayabusas, where I always ran a 190/55 rear tire. I always keep a set of tires "in stock" and have a 190/55 as my intended next rear tire. Could that cause any issues or malfunctions related to the traction control?
Thanks

Welcome, Im currently running a 190/55 with no issues on my 07. You should have no issues at all.

Your 07 doesn't have Traction Control that takes readings from both the front and rear wheel to determine if their is wheel spin. I really don't know if this would be a problem or not, hopefully someone will chime in with some expertise on this, I have never had a bike with traction control.

The shinko drag slick is much taller than the factory tire and i had no problems.. I just replace the slick with a shinko hook up and it is much shorter than the slick , so far no problems ... The ECU must have some room to adjust the TC for tire wear or size of the tire ... It may also have a learn mode that would let it readjust for small changes in tires sizes .. Just a guess on my part ..

Thanks. I'm sure the handling will be great, it's just the computer I'm not so sure about.
The way I understand it, the T/C functions by comparing the front wheel speed vs rear wheel speed, and the computer expects to see a certain front to rear speed ratio. The taller tire will cause the rear wheel to spin at a slightly lower RPM at a given ground speed. I'm just wondering if the rotation speed of the 55 would differ from the 50 enough to engage the T/C, or if the computer has enough tolerance for the variation in tire size.

Haha, thanks guys. I had a reply all ready to go, but forgot to submit it until after the last two of you chimed in.
Good info there, Smokin. Thanks a lot.

Here is a thought, just speculation, though. There must be SOME tolerance, due to tire wear and inflation pressures wich affect tire circumference. The traction control is not likely to be too concerned about the rear tire going SLOWER than the front, that is generally the concern of ABS, which you dont have (in the US).
I would think that the only issue would be that the T/C will not engage until the difference in tire speed is great enough, which means that it will engage slower when you lose traction. The change may not even be noticable, even if there is a change. The difference in tire speed seems to be about 4%.
Having said that, if, as Smokin suggested, KHI has programmed the T/C to "learn", nothing I said even matters.
Another solution that would make this discussion mute, is to change the front and rear tires the same circumference, IF you can find a tire the proper size.
Of course, if anyone has technical knowledge to contribute, please ignore my post.
