I'd have no problem buying them; tactfully, of course. Life goes on.

If he did not die on the bike, yes why not. Clothing I never buy used. I find it hard to think some guys buy others used sweaty helmets!

Creeps
Barris immediately paid $2,500 for the wreckage with the intent of parting it out. However, a string of bizarre tragedies immediately struck.
•
As soon as the vehicle was delivered to Barris' garage, it slipped off its trailer and broke a mechanic's leg.
•
Shortly thereafter, Barris sold the engine to Troy McHenry and the drive train to William Eschrid. Both were physicians and racing hobbyists. While racing at the Pomona fairgrounds on October 24, 1956, McHenry was killed when his vehicle spun out of control and crashed into a tree. Eschrid's race car rolled several times while taking a curve, seriously injuring him. He later said that the vehicle 'just locked up' on him.
•
Two tires that Barris sold malfunctioned simultaneously, causing the car they were on to go off the road.
•
A young man who was attempting to steal the steering wheel had his arm gashed open on a piece of jagged metal.
•
Another man was hurt while trying to steal one of the bloodstained seats.
At this point, Barris decided that the car would be safer in storage. But before long, the California Highway Patrol persuaded him to loan them the car for a traveling exhibition.
•
The mangled remains of Little Bastard were taken to a garage in Fresno, and stored there. Then, in March 1959, a fire broke out in the garage. The garage itself, and everything stored within, were incinerated. All except for the wreckage of James Dean's car.
•
Further tragedy followed. At a display at Sacramento High School on the anniversary of Dean's accident, the bolts holding the car in place snapped. The car plowed off its display and broke the hip of a fifteen-year-old boy who had been looking at the wreckage.
•
En route to Salinas, the truck hauling the vehicle lost control, causing the driver to fall out of the cab. Although the fall from the vehicle didn't kill him, the Porsche fell off the truck bed and landed on top of him, ending his life.
•
Reportedly, while being displayed in New Orleans, the wreckage spontaneously broke apart in five separate pieces.
•
The car came off of a truck two other times. Once while on a freeway, and a second time in Oregon.
In 1960, the car's tour ended. Barris had the vehicle loaded onto a box car in Florida and sealed shut. Then it was transported via train back to California. When the train arrived in L.A., the seal was still intact, yet the car had vanished, and has not been seen since
In any case, the Little Bastard has not been seen since its disappearance in 1960. Rewards for its return, no questions asked, were posted on the 50th anniversary of Dean's death; however no one came forward to claim them. Unless the car is found, the answer may never be known

The stories about that car are different every time you read them...I heard that the car is now in the hands of Jim Morrison, who drives around France disguised as Elvis...
Or is it really a disguise??

When i was a teen i crashed my xj750 .. the bike sat in an tow yard .. when i got out of jail i went to get it..the tow yard owner walk me to the back of a 1970's model Cadillac 1st .. and told me do i see something .. i look hard and really couldn't make it out until he told me what i was looking at ..it was a face impression in the trunk with a bite mark from a motorcyclist that rear ended the caddy and died .. teeth broke off into the metal just like if you were biting into an apple.. tow owner said this what happens when you speed and not wear a helmet... it happen on a road call 529 .. had a creek in an area that had double S curves on both sides and finished off going into two hard banked 90 degree'er after the S curves .. it became a bikers favorite road ..or part..i lost track of how many died there cars and bikes .. the state finally said enough and straighten it out.. i still go fishing there at the old bridge .. all i can say it gets erie there at night ..now back to the bike at the tow yard .. i can't say for sure but i remember meeting a guy riding the curves 1 day at the local store.. 1 of my friends was talking to him and i only got bits and pieces.. later i learnt he bought the wreck bike.. several weeks later that Friend told me the guy got killed.. while parked on the side of the road to take a smoke break.. by an on coming car that crossed over into his lane and then into the shoulder at an intersection .. this intersection in order to make a left hand turn you almost had to stop ... it was about 5 miles from where the original owner died ... all i could say was how freaky ..

I'd buy used gear if the previous owner DIDNT die in it. Afterall when we buy new gear from a dealership/parts store, it's more than likely been tried on by several before we purchase it anyway - not too much of a difference imo. Same with new or used helmets, I always pull the liner and wash it ( even with new purchase since ya just never know )

i bought my ZX7 from a dead man... Apparently he died of a brain tumor and not on the bike. I paid for his funeral by buying the bike. Didn't bother me. The bike was kinda unlucky though. I laid it down three times while i had it, and the engine blew just over a year after I bought it. I learned something every time i went down and i'd like to think I've had my fair share of them by now. I've had my 14 for over a year and 5000 miles and thus far have kept it shiny side up. I'm certainly not above the notion that it could happen again. Luckily I wasn't badly hurt any of the times I went down. aside from a partially dislocated shoulder once, I had a little road rash and a bruised ego. I don't think I can blame it on the bike though. It was mostly 20 year old me doing stupid shit.
Goes to show that there are two kinds of riders, those who have gone down, and those who will.
A buddy of mine at work who just recently got back into riding a couple of years ago was told by an old woman "You're going to die riding that motorcycle." To which he replied "and you're gonna die not riding it."
There are three kinds of people those who can count and those who can't.
