Rear View Mirrors at the Track

Back when the 14R first came out, I read something from Brock that mentioned how having mirrors on at the track would cost, if memory serves me, around 7 horsepower on the top end due to wind resistance. I'm not saying it isn't possible, but to me, does seem unlikely. I've ran with and without mirrors and I cannot say that I noticed a difference in trap speed. Also, 7 hp is quite a bit - and I'm guessing my wrist doesn't have 7 horsepower - but I can use my wrist to turn the mirrors in on a ZX-14 . . . so my point is, if the wind was really dragging at them that much, wouldn't they always turn in from the wind resistance when racing? I know mine would stay in place just fine. Curious what other opinions are . . .

I would like to know also.

I do know if I sit up v/s tucking tight my bike runs .06-.07 slower. When I'm out front and know I have the race won, I will sit up so the guy in the other lane can't figure out my fastest pass.

On my 2003 ZX12 the mirrors were worth 2-3 mph in trap speeds at the track.

3hp = 1 mph. I never saw that much of a difference in mirrors though. I ran the same time with them as I did without.

But you were only running the 1/8, it would probably be a bit more in the 1/4. With that being said, I know a lot of guys that bracket race that leave them on. There the name of the game is consistancy and they like to be able to see behind them.

I noticed about 1/2 a mph in my trap speed with the mirrors tucked in versus out.

Yeah, I've noticed over 1/2 mph just between runs without any changes. And the 14 mirrors look like they are designed to cut through the wind pretty good anyway, so I would think that the difference would really be small.
