LSL Spiegler Bar kit
Hey All,
I'm new to the forum but have owned my 07 ZX14 since new. It just turned over 20k miles and I'm looking for ways to convert it into more of a long distance sport tourer. I currently have Heli bar risers but I am switching to Concours seat and the added height basically cancels out the risers. I really like the LSL bar kit from Spiegler but I really dont want to shell out 500.00 buck s for it. Does anyone know where to locate them cheaper?
Thanks for any help!

I had them on my 07 ZX14 and loved them, when I bought the 14R i switched them over to the new bike. The top triple clamp fits perfectly but Kawasaki changed the lockset on the new bike and I had to do some grinding on the back of the lockset to make it fit. It is the only way I can ride the bike and I use even higher bars than the ones supplied. To your question, Spiegler is the only company that imports and stocks the kit from LSL so I'm afraid unless you find them used you must pay their price. I'm actually thinking about buying a 2011 ZX10R and putting them on that as well. Worth the money from a comfort standpoint.

not going to find them anywhere cheaper....but they are worth every penny. Quality stuff. I've had mine over a year now and love it.

Monte I have some Apex clip on risers that I am looking to sell. About a three inch rise, check the classifieds. Bought them for my 14 but never mounted them. Shoot me an email at epd345@yahoo.com and I can send you some pics.

Thanks guys,
I actually think I may have located a nice used kit. However, the guy said that he doesn't want to remove the brake lines so I will have to purchase those myself.
BobK and Quarter Pounder,
Can either of you tell me what the required measurement is for the extended brake lines?
Thanks for all the help and I'm looking forward to the new bars!

Spiegler 2012 ZX14 Riser Kits in R&D
Just contacted the head German contact this morning......currently in development in Germany, not available yet for the new 2012 ZX14 in USA.
Advised him of the new bike and current interest and he is calling Germany today to get some units made and shipped over here. Some changes in milling in the ignition switch which is different from previous ZX14's.
Told him we need and want an out of the box plug and play kit the fits the new 2012 without any filing, grinding, pounding, or machining.....
Said he will get on it today...so placed and order and gave him my name, number, and e mail address so when he gets them.....I get a call...
Suggest anyone wanting a kit to also do the same...
Spiegler.....937-291-1735, he advised available probably in the next 30-45 days stateside.

I sent Spiegler photos of my ZX14R with their bars on it and told them what they need to do to make it fit. It is a simple matter. Instead of drilling and taping two holes for the ignition lock perpendicular to the top of the clamp they need to drill them at an angle so the new lockset will clear the frame. A very simple change the should be easy to set up in their machines. You won't have to change the clutch hose although I think Spiegler sends one just re-route it a little which saves time bleeding, also you can use higher bars than what Spiegler supplies if you are willing to have just the slightest amount of touching to the fairing where the windshield attaches and this is only at full lock on each side. Makes it even more comfortable and you can still use the supplied brake hose which I only used one of and connected it on the left side like the stock one.

BobK,
Do you have any pics you can send me of your Spiegler install, also did you add a taller cross handlebar, if so, did you get it from Spiegler?
Please e mail me any pics or recommendations you may have on this system, as I am now thinking of using Apex riser type of bars, do you have any experience with that system?
I need to get some comfortability on this bike so can drive it longer and more often...
thanks,

BobK,
Could you post a copy of those pics on this thread as well as any install tips? I am about to embark on installing the kit myself on my 07.
Thanks!

Otherwise i like the LSL bars but a little expensive, the Apex look like the best but they dont come with lines.. looking to upgrade, any help would be great. (new member)

If you went 4" longer on the line from the master cylinder you'll be fine....more if you use different bars with more rise or pull back.

I contacted the supplier of LSL kits and still none available for the 2012 ZX14r.
Any diagrams or photos of the modification for the ignition lock on the web site?
Can I do this in my garage with simple tools?
BobK, can you help me?

What you have to do is grind off the security bolt heads at the bottom of the lock set so you can slide it out from the top triple tree clamp. You will replace these with standard hex head bolts. Then you have to grind the back of the lock set until it doesn't interfere with the frame when you install the LSL top clamp. That is all there is to it. All the rest of the LSL instructions will then be appropriate.

You can see that I shortened the LSL spacers first thinking that would make it fit but it didn't so just ground the back of the lockset. If you use the LSL spacers it will fit flush like stock. I didn't want to bother taking everything apart again just to lower the lockset.

Here are some other photos of the bars installed and where they touch the fairings. You can see even with the higher than Spiegler supplied bars they just barely touch the fairings and only at full lock I have had zero issues with the fairings as they just move out of the way because they have plenty of give.

reclock the throttle cables like the instructions tell you to and you won't have that issue.

No, but that may be because I have the short spacers in so the lockset is sitting higher.

I used Renthal but not sure of the model but they are higher with more of a pullback than the LSL bars that Spiegler uses.

Could someone explain "reclocking" the throttle cables.
And could you tell the new length of the Brake Line with the LSL Bar Kit.

The brake line that came with my LSL kit is 15 inches long.
There is an LSL handlebar kit for sale on eBay at the moment

I have a 2012. I measured the long brake line and it is about 28". It has a 1" square metal block with the brake line encased and bolted in front of the lower triple tree. Probably designed with ABS system in mind.
Any ideas on reclocking the throttle cables?

Mine is the ABS model and the line 15" long. It has a 3/8" metal block into which fits the brake hard line. This is mounted just behind the headstock on the frame
