World Wide Bearing install ..

Got my bearings in the other day From Dave at World Wide bearings .. This are the lastest hybrid ceramic style wheel bearings ... This are said to have 40% less fiction that the stock steel bearings and 60% more load handling that steel .. The are said to run cooler and last longer than stock steel bearings .. The bearings are fully sealed and lubed ..

Installing them is a bit of work , you have 3 bearing in the rear and i installed them last night .. The front only has two and i did them tonight after work .. You really need the right bearing puller to remove the old bearings .. Lucky i just happen to own one ...This is not something you just want to do with a punch and hammer .. Even with the right puller you need to take your time and don't get all in a hurry .. A little light heat from a torch just to heat the rim up around where the bearing goes ( just warm it up ) helps the bearings come out a bit easier .. Don't get so close or to much heat that will burn your wheel paint .. Toss the new bearings in the freezer and get them real cold .. With the rim warm and bearings cold they go in nice and easy .. If you are not all that good with hand tools or don't have the right tools have a good shop motorcycle shop put them in for you ..

I had done a set in Jesses bike years ago and never did prove or disprove if they added any MPH or ET ..But what i did see first hand was the bike was so much easier to push around the shop and the pits at the track ..

After i got mine install i noticed right away how much easier it was to roll around .. So i'm hoping it will pick up some MPH at the track .. March 8th i will get a chance to see what happens at the track.. One other thing i noticed was how much drag the Brake pads have on the rotors.. Even the factory dust seals add a good bit of drag .. I ride on the street so leaving the dust seals off was out of the question for me .. I have heard the the land speed guys pry the pad away for the rotors before making a pass and i now understand why they do that .. I will not be doing that at the drag strip .. I will run them as is and see if i can find any gains ..One thing for sure it's not going to slow the bike down any ..

Some of this kind of mods you only see small gains .. But when you add up all the small gains you end up with big gains over all .. I don't need much more to put me in the high 8.40s .. I'm hoping this just might get me there .. I need all the help i can get because temps in FL are on the way up every day ...No more killer air for us till next winter .. This makes it very hard to prove what works and what doesn't work .. One day you test and it's 60s and dry ... next week 70s and the very next week it's low 80s .. In a another month we will be touching 90s...

Lee,

I just installed a set of WW ceramics also and will try them out for the first time in LSR. I too couldn't believe how easily the bike pushes around.

Dave is a great guy to deal with.

what kind of seals are on those Lee? full contact or no contact? What are the letters after the part number on the boxes?

OEM stuff is full contact and that is where most of the resistance comes from. The lube is the next factor in resistance...

All the rest is subject to what kind of loads you are putting them under, in our case, we are not even close to any load limits or speed ratings for the bearings. Yes, they carry a much higher load capacity, but we aren't even remotely close to seeing those loads so that point is useless.

You'd be surprised at how good a lightweight cage, steel balls, no contact seal, light grease fill bearing is compared to stockers....lets just say the ceramics are lighter and marginally better, but cost is waaaaaaaaaay more..... .02

I battled the "dragging pads" thing on my Zx12, found that removing the dust seals solved it, but even on a race only bike, i wasn't really comfortable with the set up.

Then I got hooked up with Thomas Miceli (yup, THAT Miceli)

He does a magic lil mod to the calipers which gives zero drag even with the dust seals in place. costs about $50/caliper.

I would appreciate that . As soon as I can move my shoulder after this surgery I have some work to do on the bike and bearings are on the list.

what' are they chinese bearings or something? Any reputable manufacturor will make sure you know what you are putting in. I don't think I would like that too much.

Well i don't think they are Chinesse because i was on the phone with him while he was building them for me ... Last time i looked PA is not in China .. I'm sure there is a part number on the bearings but i'm not taking them back out to find it ..
They came it a kit maked " zx14 WBK " and guess what they fit .. Teddy tell me you sell wheel bearings , so call WWB and you can talk to Dave and get the info..

After a bit of haggling with the UK distributor, I got mine pre-installed in my BST's for an extra £150 (around $240).
It didn't feel like it at the time but I guess I got a bargain!

I had been thinking about ceramic bearings and got discouraged.(someone advised I go a different route for speed gains that did not include bearing mods!)

yes it's a lot of bucks...But i'm hunting for 8.49 , i'm close at 8.52 if this pushes me into the 8.49.9 on pump gas it will be worth every penny ..
That 395.00 doesn't go away like 130.00 for 5 gallons of MR12 fuel...... Or filling a n20 bottle two or three times every track day ...Or a turbo that eats pistons like a 600 pound guy eats donuts...

This new zx14r is highly tuned right from the factory ..One item is not going to gain a bunch of ET and MPH , it's going to take a lot of little things together to see gains..
If these bearings work you will read about it right here and if they don't you will read about it right here also ..If they don't work i just saved you 395.00 bucks ..If they work and you don't want to spend 395.00 bucks , don't buy them .. I'm not twisting your arm to buy them ..
