An alternative to using heat when pulling out the old bearings is to pour some isopropyl alcohol around them and allow it to penetrate. It's a trick I learned when replacing ball-bushings, without the alcohol they were difficult to shift even with the correct tools, with alcohol you could do it with your fingers and it's less likely to cause damage than using heat, which you apply as a last resort.
