09 charging system blues
My 09 has 5600 mi. on it , and the volt meter at startup usually shows around 12.8 , then after a few second goes to about 13. 4 , but yesterday it dropped to 11.8 and stayed ! I figured the batt went south , so I pulled it , and popped the seal off and it was dry ! I put some distilled water in it and put it on a trickle charge, then put my atv batt on it just to prove to myself it was the battery ! Still stuck on like 12.2 vlts, but if I revit to 5grand , it goes to 14.3 but after 15 seconds it drops back to 12.2 ? My hand held meter shows the bike to be building charge , and idles at 12.8 ? I even tested the stator AC volts , and it was charging ? Did the dry battery fry the regulator , or is the dash meter incorrect? I was fixing to buy a Shorai , or Ballistic anyway , but I need to race this weekend , and don't know what to do now??? I hate to waste 50 bucks on gas , just to have my bike crap out ! Bike never failed to start , I rode it ovr 100 miles this week , now I'm confuzed as hell , and I got some bad busass coming in to to try and spray me down !! An answers on the charging ??

My meter on both my 06 and 09 did strangs things at times .. I really don't think you have a problem other than you need a new battery .. Make darn sure you charge the new battery for 4 to 6 hours before you install it .. I have seen mine as low as 12.2 and as high as 13.8 .. My 2012 goes to 14.8 at times .. You can test them Volt reg and but i don't think its a problem .. If your stator didn't show an open or a short to ground with an ohm meter it's fine also..

Smokin , the only test I did was the AB AC BC test , and I got about 55v at 400o rpm on but one of em didn't come up as fast or as high ?? can I check theeach wire with ohm to grd like on a HD ? Also My other battery is a YTX14BS 12ah , and the OEM is a 14h , could this cause any problems this weekend , I really don't want to buy another lead battery ? I'm gonna order a new lithium next week , if I can figure out which one ! Thanks
