Brocks oil

I ordered a gallon of Brocks synthetic oil and oil treatment.I ordered the 10w-30.Has anyone had any experience with it?I was going to buy the 0W but I was nervous about the weight.I'm also going to use a K&N filter.I'm getting my bike dynotuned. So I want everything right.Getting it ready for it's first trip to the dragstrip.I race other bikes but never one of these.I'm going back to the stock rear sprocket, and maybe the front one if I can find it

Anyone with some info I would appreciate it.I been reading Smokin's drag race instructions
I guess I need some seat time when my track opens in April.
Craig.

I hear a lot of concerns with the 0W oil (I'm a little hesitant myself). Brock stands by it 100%. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with it? Does anyone use it for just street use and would this be safe?

I have run the <0 oil with the Petron additive since I bought my bike in 06. I changed the oil, filter and
Petron every 75 passes. I've got over 800 passes on my bike and had 400 passes on one of my clutch stacks. I rode it on the street as well, but only for a max of 50 to 75 miles. It wasn't
because of the oil, but because I had a non o-ring chain on the bike. I am up to 16K miles so far
and plan to do only street riding this year. I am still using the <0 with Petron on the street. Hope
this answers your questions and puts some fears to rest.

Later...

Do you know how often they recommend changing the 0W for street use if ever?

10 years ago when I was Sales Manager/Tech Support at D&D Exhaust we used Royal Purple OW on the
Super Flow Eddy Dyno and we found about 3 to 5 more HP. I would not use it on the street.
It is so thin(poured like water) no detergents in it and less friction= slight increase in HP.
I have not kept up with the new oils so I could be out of date on the oil Brock sells.

Im sure the oils Brock sells are excellent.
But, you guys have a valid concern for 0 weight oil.

The oil viscosity you run in an engine is based on the bearing clearances you are running. Factory engines have tight bearing clearances and are about the only candidate for a 0 weight oil. Race engines that have the rod and main bearing clearances opened up, to flow more oil past the journals for better cooling, need a thicker oil to maintain proper oil pressure.
When you open up the clearances the oil flows easier past the bearings and reduces the oil pressure because the volume has increased. Oil pressure is just a measurement of the resistance of oil to flow threw the engine.

The HP you see when running a thinner oil has nothing to do with less friction. Its because the oil is thinner and take less hp to turn the oil pump because the oil pressure is lower and the oil is thinner.

This is the same reason you see the hp go up on the dyno as the oil temp rises in the engine. Hopefully your dyno guy get your oil temps up before he does a pull. Oil temps lag way behind coolant temps on warm up. The engine needs to be under a light load to get the oil temps up.

Bottom line, 0 weight oils are best suited for a stock engine with bearing clearances on the tight side. I wouldn't run 0 weight on the street if you live in Florida or Texas with that summer heat and get caught in traffic. Save it for the drag strip. You wont notice the extra 2-3 hp.

Remember, just because you dont put a rod threw the cases doesn't mean your oil is working properly for you. Its primary function is cooling.
With that being said, its actually better to have an oil that's too thin in the engine than too thick. Thin cools the crank and rods better than thick. As pressure (resistance to flow) goes up flow past the rods and crank go down, as does cooling.

Jim,

That was some good hip pocket training. a would like to try it, but the cost isn't worth the gain. I run 5w/20 with 1/4 bottle of lucus oil stabilizer. What are your thoughts on that combo?

Thanks in advanced

looks like theres some mix reviews on using the <0 weight oil. Im one of the guys running the this oil on my 14R, i switched over at 200 miles. Im still skeptical on the use of this oil for the streets.
What you guys think of ratio of maybe 3 quarts of the <0 and the rest 5w-20 or 10w-40?

I just put in Alison 10W-30 synthetic oil from Brocks. Also added Petron oil additive and a K&N 303 filter. It felt smoother than my 10W-40 Amsoil. And alot smoother then ther original.
And best of all no more cam chain noise.

Mixed reviews? More like "mixed opinions".

It is in my bike...

That's cool as long as you don't try to go 3000 between oil changes and drive it on the street in traffic. No Detergents in this oil. Too each his own.

My $.02 is I don't want to spend that kind of money for a very small amount (if any) hp and sacrifice the motor. As often as I change my oil, that would get expensive

good grief...it never ceases to amaze me that folks debate this topic over and over again.

My oil is good for 20k miles and is -5/32W...it actually reduces the bikes overall weight.
