It has a locking washer, make sure is unbent, put it in gear and press the rar brake, then with a breaker bar get at it...is not too hard

flatten the bent over tabs of the lock washer.have transmission in nuetral.put a peice of 2x4 thru rear wheel to stop it from turning.use a air impact to break loose if you have it.if it has never been taken off it will be real fucking tight..assemble to the service manual torque specs.

when you re-torque the net, don't put a lot on it. Maybe 70 or 80 foot-pounds, if you over torque it. You'll never get it off. I use a big bar through the rear sprocket across the swingarm, if you have a stock sprocket. It may not fit through their, then I use the wheel.

Brad.......if you use a breaker bar, be sure to point it towards the front of the bike and push down.............DON'T point it to the back and pull up. You will tip your nice bike over. Have someone help you to hold the bike..........

MAKE SURE it's in neutral!
The 2x4 works good through the wheel, and like said above, push the reamer bar down, not up. Unless your bike is strapped down.

+1 And I recommend an impact wrench it makes thins so much easier! Just don’t put the nut back on with the impact wrench and make sure you fold the lock washer back on. And if you exhaust is in the way of the 2X4 and the swing arm have a friend hold the back brake. And DO NOT PUT THE BIKE IN GEAR FOR THIS it can mess up your transmission. And don’t forget to clamp your clutch piston you will cry if it falls out!

Sorry for my ignorance but, wouldnt the tranny be under more stress by launching at the track than taking the sprocket off?

Motorcycles are made to go forward in gear not backwards. So if the bike is in gear and you try to remove the nut you’re stressing all your eternal engine and transition components in reverse. And it can damage parts that have never seen that kind of stress like shift forks and such. Im not saying if you put it in gear and try to remove the nut that it will damage something but there is a chance and I would rather be safe than sorry!

But doesn't taking the nut off require it to go to the left which is the same way that the gear rotates under load anyway? So how is that putting stress on the internals. I would think tightening it up may give it some stress
