MotorcycleNews: 14R destroys the Bugly. MCN did some speed testing of the 14R, Bugly and BMW1300.
Here's the link to the video and the brief comments which leave no doubt about the conclusions they arrived at.

all this is great .. but from looking at the video ..what i seen was the busa was peg out long before the orange shack on the left.. the zx14 right at the orange shack .and the BMW never did peg out on the whole run... maybe all their speedos are off

They both looked to me to hit limiter at just before the orange shed. However, the 14R's rev counter doesn't move after this but if you watch the Busa's rev counter it continues to rise until near the end of the track suggesting it may not have hit the limiter.
However, the two runs shown are hardly comparable as in the 14R run you see the guy short shifting at c.9000-9500 revs whereas the Busa is maxed every gear including first. Two very different runs to be fair. Interestingly, the 14R seems to hit the pin in 5th whereas the Busa doesn't pin til after he's in sixth. Might be due to differences in speedos and how and when the electronics kick in.
I am sure their article title is based on more than just these two runs.

Just reading through it in the magazine in the shop, it blasted the Busa in every category.
Over a second quicker in their 1/4 mile testing.
3 seconds!!! quicker from 0 to 170 (confirming that the above run was hardly representitive).
Roll-ons, braking etc all went to the 14R comfortably bar 1 stat, the 40-160 roll-on in 6th gear went narrowly to the Busa. Obvioulsy gearing was the reason which confuses me a little as the ratio on the new 14R is a bit shorter than the previous model.
The saving grace for the Busa was it's cult following. That's all they could use to comfort their Suzuki fan base.

more Spam from a Suzuki paid for advertisement. if you go back and pay close attention to the video, the guy on the 14 is taken for ever to get it wide open throttle and then he short shifts, low second and third at about 9500 and I don't even know what switch mode it's in. on the busa he goes 11700 in low gear, LOL I didn't even know they would go 11700 and carries every gear to the redline. When magazines say they are doing a test on motorcycles. Better find out who's paying for it LOL.

i guess you missed the part where the zx14 beat the busa by a full second in the 1/4 mile .. i guessing RG paid for that part..

I guess I should have taken more time to read the article closer. All I did was stopwatch The times from 20 to 180 mph, and the busa was quicker and for a good reason.

Just watched the video of the new 14R from MSN...WOW....What gets me is that the ZX 14R engine seems so relaxed and smooth sounding even blasting near redline rpm..Noticed the wheel coming up in second while traveling pretty fast as well...Very impressive.

That video, shot at Bruntingthorpe, shows the same dashboard data for the 14R as the European launch video from the Nardo Ring. Which is 10,900rpm in 6th at the top speed limiter.
Frankly it's not good enough, the correct rpm would be a shade over 10,000 for the 183mph speed they recorded and 186mph would be 10,200rpm. The tacho on the bike is 9% optimistic. (or did they gear it 16/42 )
Anyway the Kawasaki did a 10.09sec quarter against the Busa's 11.19sec. I can't imagine how they failed to get the Suzuki into the tens but in any case it's game over.

11.19 for the busa? it must have started raining or the rider really messed it up.
the same magazine got 10.2 for the 2nd gen busa a few years back,
anyway 10.09 is nothing to brag about either.

I think you need to keep in mind these guys are Magazine Writers and not drag racers . I'm surprised they went that fast ..

really? 11.19 is by far the worst time ever any magazine got for the busa ,they all get low 10 sec passes, hell my 260 lb friend went 10.9 the very first strip pass he ever done on any bike on a stock busa, with a 2.1 sec 60 ft

if rickey gadson went only 0.3 tenths quicker on a zx14r than an unknown rider on his busa ,that does not in any way support what the mcn done either. i would not get too excited about the zx14r against the busa yet, i would estimate the new zx14 to be about 0.2 tenths quicker over the hallowed 1/4 stock for stock ,and expect that advantage to be eroded even further, when the both bikes done up (full exhaust etc.), due to the zx14higher tune from the factory. Dont forget that a stock motored busa has done a 8.42sec 1/4 mile and is currently the fastest 1/4 pass for a stock motored bike, even quicker than the bmw1000r and with less modifications...
A 14R tricked up to the same degree with the same phenomenal rider and conditions would piss all over that. Jeez, there looks to be guys on here that'll beat that given time with half the mods.
The thing to remember about these 1/4 times with the Busa and 14R is that they come from a bunch of journalists on an unprepped runway. The 1 second gap shows the confidence the traction control gives to what no doubt in the most part were novices.
At runway 1/4 mile meets where there's no prepping, 11 secs is not bad for a totally stock Busa. A 10 zero is phenomenal for a stock anything in those conditions. Jeez, on runways with a slammed, full on modded 12R i managed just two runs that dipped into the 9s and although I wouldn't describe myself as very good, I'm no slouch either. THAT is what traction control gives: no fear of flipping the bike and no wheelspin.

yadda yadda... everybody in the game knows that the busa can do low 10s with half a decent rider ,as i said if ricky gadson can do only 2-3 tenth quicker than some unkown rider on a busa, then i start to doubt if this kawasaki is any quicker at all.If the bike magazine rider is so incompetent then that test is worth a shit and i think that some magazines will have the busa beat the new kawasaki. anyway if they got the busa outaccelerating the zx14r in the top gear acceleration, then the same would apply in the lower gears also.and to be fair the busa wheelbase needs to be extended by an inch to make it the same.

Bob, it works out just about perfectly, imo. On a new tire, at 10500 rpm (the tach is easily +400 off, as demonstrated on the dyno), the theoretical speed of the bike would be 192.1 mph on stock gearing. Take off 3% for wheel slippage (which we see all of the time over here), and you are looking at 186.24 mph....if the tire is not worn, or the bike leaning at all, etc..
