08 zx14 vs 12 zx14R roll on results A friend of mine and fellow zx14.com member and I met up today for a much anticipated ride togather.
My bike, 08 14, as for go fast stuff it as follows, as of today is -1 front stock rear sprocket, flys out with custom tune, full muzzys m14, bmc street, lithium battery. My bike on a dynojet made 172STD and 99.75 tq with extended swingarm and heavy usoft tire. Other mods that affect performance, usoft drag radial, 67" wb. Revolved drag shock.
My weight 200lbs geared up.
Friends bike, 12 zx14R, Stock, 300 miles. 270lbs or so.
We did our roll ons mid second gear to level the feild because of my bikes extension.
2nd gear mid rpm launch, I pull ahead several bike lengths quickly, maintain till end of run in 5th. Repeated with same results.
Swapped bikes, same 2nd gear mid rpm start, I gave him the nod, then whacked open the throttle on the 14r (in power mode 1) and quickly pulled about twice the bike lengths as I did when we were on our own bikes. I found the 14r fighting for traction well over 100. The new 14r is extremely fun to ride even bone stock! Almost makes me want to go back to stock WB, almost.. Riding the new 14r made me realize one thing, a guy of my weight Can Not plant the power this bike makes on the streets up here in Washington on the cold roads here in stock form.
I know this isn't the best comparison being that he weights more and my bike is set up for drag and not roll on racing, but we thought it would be of some intrest. So all of us pre 2012 14's watch out for skinny guys on 14R's and go for the heavy riders! Lol

I did something similar but instead of trading bikes I simply raced a guy with an R1 that had some really good flowing heads and that I would beat on my 07 ZX14 that also had head work but made 191 uncorrected HP. I would barely beat him with the 07 from 3rd gear roll on. With the 14R I walk away from him now. 14R is substantially faster than my old bike.

Nice write up...I am the other rider...Power to weight ration really place into a roll -on comparision...3000 bike is fast, and even with the New 14r it proved to much for me....Still waiting to mod,so a rematch will be in order...And maybe a weight reduction(me) wouldn't hurt either ..As he stated once we switched, the outcome speaks for itself....
quote:You should have turned the traction control off and the results would have been WAY different.
That's right because you were here doing this test right? I did it both ways, mode one vr turned off has no affect on power untill traction is lost, off or on the results were the same, but I found the traction control mode one to be very efficient under these conditions, it was not neutering power, just limmiting wheel spin for the split second slips of the rear tire for me instead of having to manipulate throttle myself. My friend when on his 14r was not having the traction issues I was having with his extra weight.
If anyone thinks they can best me on my 67" bike with usoft grip that scales in at 500-520 lbs at this same 2nd gear start with a stock 14r up here on North Washington's cold streets bring on and bring some cash, it's just not a fair fight, I've rode both back to back and raced both of them, I'm not saying the new 14r is not faster because it is, its faster, better, stronger as it should.
Its not like the new 14 has 50% more hp, fact is its heavier and has about 15% more hp than the average piped n tunned 14 on the road today, and that most heavier 14r riders will find beating bolt-on equipped 14's with a lighter rider to be a chore. Either way no 14r is blowing a 14 off the road, were talking bike lengths not hundreds of yards and it's still anyone's game.

I'd better start rolling coins for a 14r soon lol

Lol this was retarded...just sayin.. you put a stretched, fairly modded gen one against a stock gen 2 WITH. The computer getting in the way on a cold day... Yep, seems far..lolol

I never said it was a fair race and this is not pinks its real life results on the street, so don't start bitching about it. For the record a zx14 with a heavy drag tire and extra chain is at a disadvantage in a roll on from these speeds for the record.

Testing like this is fun but it's not really telling us anything .. But i still love roll on racing myself This is the way i look at a zx14 vs zx14R ... My gen 1 8.70s @154 , My gen 2 8.50s @ 160 .. That's 6 MPH extra in the 1/4 mile and it's NOT just walking away from the gen 1 , it's running away !! Spread that over a mile run and it's a fat out killing ..
Do this little test yourself , stand in the street and have a friend drive by you at 6 MPH while you are standing still .. That is what it going to look like when the Gen 2 pulls away from you.. Keep in mind i'm talking same mods, same weights and skills on both bikes ..

Even you look at how much .distance .2 seconds is at 150 mph...you are looking at 44 feet. That is 6 bike lengths....if they could mph equally, which they don't. No comparison.

I agree, and that's what Id expect if both bikes were the same, but modded 14 against a 14R is anybody race, that's what we learned yesterday.

i see it differant .. you weren't coming off a sickess and skinny on your gen 1 and you didn't run an auto shifter back then .. i'm sure that counts for some of your 6mph

Well when i got my gen 1 back in 06 i weighed what i do now ...I put on 10+ pounds between 06 and 09 ... And i'll tell you i can push a button as good as the auto shift ... So suck on that Big Foot ...

then why do your leathers look like they use to be owned by bigfoot ... i'm sure wind flap alone kills 6mph
Because i have had 3 different sets of leathers since 2005 ..
It really matter ? You think the new zx14Rr is 900 hundred pounds heavier than the Gen 1 anyway ..

Lots of interesting opinions here today. I know the new 14r is unbeatable and the fastest thing ever and reading these results upsets some of you for some reason.. But get over it, we don't all live at the 1/4 mile or have prime conditions to do comparisons here in a place I like to call the real world.
And those that think there is no compairson from 14 to r think again, Me on my 14 on the street on my bike at 67" and a usoft tire a lack of hp is not an issue for 99.99% of the time, I either end up not having the traction or wheeling and having to reduce power in first gear, and most every street race you will find around here is not going to go much further than a few gears then it's over, so get the launch right or you loose, no 10-30 hp difference is gonna fix that in a gear or two. While I enjoy roll on racing every now and then, I don't really care much about results, I think it's worth sharing this info and that's what I did.
So your bike has a few more % hp to weight congrats and you beat me in a no rider skill testing roll on race, now let's do this from a stop on the street with unknown traction available and see what happens.
The real test is from dig, 170 hp or 10,000 hp hooking up under varying conditions and using what you have is a challenge and where it's at for me, and that is why I set my bike up for.
