escort 9500 i... 499 bucks. not waterproof. but worth every penny or new escort redline for slightly better range...only a few seconds longer warning but does not have gps or filters like the 9500i. if they go off a cop is around for sure...both have great range.

How did you mount them to your bikes? And did you do anything for audio alerts in your helmet? Thanks in advance.

awesome great pics! do you do anything to help with the audio for the alerts or are they easy to pick up just through the unit?

I found that if I connected an LED light bar used as a license plate light, to the auidio out and turned the volume all the way up it actually lights the LEDs. They flicker rapidly. I found a way to mount this in my helmet. The down side is you are now tethered to the bike a bit. It works great tho. The LEDs are white. I also rigged up one of those cheap red LED marker lights and stuck that on dash someplace.. works fine at night.. but completely useless during the day. During the day it has to be inside your helmet. It sounds complicated but when you are averaging 110 MPH across 4 states.. saves your ass and completely worth the added hassle.
I can get you some pics of that setup if you want? Not sure where to get the LED bar as it came in a kit I bought several years back and the bracket busted.. but I am sure you can find something similar.
Let me know.

yeah, absolutely put the pics up when you get a chance if you don't mind. I plan on doing some long range touring this summer and can not afford another ticket esp. on the new bike. Thanks again for all of your help.

I bought the Escort 8500 and screamer and it has been great four the past 4 years. The site is www.motorcycleradar.com. They have package deals for the radar and the screamer (it's loud). They also have visual alerts and jammers.

Here's the LED bar on the busted bracket
Fitted in helmet.
Lit. I totally see it light up in my peripheral vision. Works great!
I stick this on the dash at night. I don't ride the 14 much at night though.. so this doesn't get used much.

I use a Beltronics Rx 65 that I picked up through Costco on line about three years ago. Then it was $329 and they gave you a $25 cash card that you could use @ Costco. There was another more expensive model with a GPS feature by Beltronics but it was not available @ Costco. I am using a Techmount by Highgear Specialties to mount it to the steering stem head. I also use a Screamer that hooks up to the detector sound connection on the side. It has a 3 way switch on my left handlebar, low mode, off, and high volume position which is 108 db. No problem hearing it while using a full face helmet. It is attached to the stationary platform under the key set. I pull the power from headlight hot wire and send it to a cig plug that is tied to the right fork tube. I have used all kinds of detectors over the years and the Beltronics is as good as any. There is no doubt that this system has saved me THOU$AND$ over the years. My 08 has 49240 miles on it and my green 12 has 2342 on it already. I pick up K band hits when the police are not even in sight. It doesn't get any better than that. Ride on!

Thanks everyone for all of their help It is greatly appreciated! Artanis, I was looking into the screamer and it's good to know that you have had no issues hearing with the full face helmet. My only concern would be other people staring while just cruising if it is that loud, but I guess that's a better alternative then having a $200 ticket.

Great job. I have 8500 that I mounted right to the windscreen, drill trough the windshiel mount and used 00 faucet seat for vibration dampening. Put a marine grade plug on the clucth resivor bracked with homemade bracked and tied it to the tail light. Worked great and looked good. How is yours plugged in. Can you give details on the custom arm riser, looks like square al stock.
Now all I need is RADAR so I see the other guys. Was blindside my an insaned redneck in a PU, did not even stop. Witness only go a partial
Now I am looking at mounting everything on my new zx14 and impoving it function.
I like the idea of led connected to the audio - great idea
thanks

I was wondering if anyone here has or has had a bluetooth helmet? I was thinking of using one of these helmets, and just linking a bluetooth transmitter to the radar detector that way I would just be able to hear the sounds through the helmets audio speakers.

Bluetooth is great for communication and music but only up to 80ish mph. Then the wind and exhaust noise makes it useless. I would imagine that the radar "concern" is for over 80 mph. The Screamer or Visual alert is a better option. As stated earlier there are volume settings for the Screamer (low when in town and high when on the highway).

It was custom machined by a friend of mine from a larger piece of aluminum in a CNC mill but by hand, programming on the mills console. Pretty easy to pull off with a mic and some patience. I am sure you could do it any number of ways. TechMount has changed up the line a bit.,. they offer the stem mounts with smaller round plates now. I think you can still special order the larger rectangular plates and well as radar detector specific plates. Lots of options... just have to be creative. If you want exact measurements, I can mic the rod for you.. but your better off waiting til you have your stem mount and then doing it to meet your exact needs IMO.
