New ZX14R with stuck thermostat?

I am now the proud owner of a new black ZX14R, unfortunately I seem to also be the owner of a stuck open thermostat.

Riding the bike home from the dealer I noticed when I was about five miles down the road that the temperature was only 149. Temperature was 48F outside but I still would expect 180-190. When I would stop at lights and stop signs it would start to climb but I never saw above 172 until I got home and let it idle in the garage. It did get to 205 and the fans kicked in to cool it back down to about 192. I took off again and about a mile and a half later, back down to 149.

I called the dealer and they told me to ride it the rest of the weekend, if I still did not feel comfortable with it they would check it out.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Rich

Hey Rick
I only have about 200 miles on mine but i'm pretty sure that mine is running in and around the same tempertures as yours and only climbing when stopped at a light or at the end of my ride. I have only been riding in cold weather so I'm sure she's gonna heat up come summer.
The 14R has 2 fans so I guess there working pretty well. Enjoy that new Gal!!!

48 outside ? No way is it going to get hot to open the thermostat ... You proved it work by letting it run till the fan came on .. Ride the bike and have fun ..

I have 2059 on mine and going down the road on the southern Or. coast if it's mid 40's I run about 144. Have only had the fans pop on a couple times at over 200.

Air temps in the upper 50's here today.

Engine temps never got out of the 160's and I was not riding easy.

Temps in the mid 50's so I put 100 miles of mixed driving on the bike today.
When running around town light to light and not getting above 45mph, It would stay above 170F. At one time while setting at back to back long lights the fans actually kicked on.
Took the open road to head back home at 60+mph and the temps would drop right down to 145F and hold it there.

This bike runs cool. It will be interesting to see how it handles the heat this summer.

I absolutely love this bike.

I don't think there's anything wrong with your thermostat, I believe on the gin one models. 145F is about where it started opening up. and is fully open at 160F.

I get stuck in traffic often, and often don't feel like splitting lanes so I wired up a switch & relay to turn on fans.... Wondering how the temps will be in summertime.
