It is, but I'd love to be turning 4K in top gear for about 80'ish mph. I have my little quirks, no doubt. Too many bikes and too many strange preferences...

Strange...

Maybe the combination of -1 and +etc keeps the prob from happening?? I'm not sure...just a thought.

Does your bike try to come up all the time with that huge gear in the rear?

Really sounds like a TPS adjustment to me. I have seen this on a few new FI bikes. The fuel cuts out before the throttle is actually closed.. so when you have the throttle just barely cracked open the ECU thinks the throttle is fully closed. Then, the 1 tooth down front sprocket just makes the problem more exaggerated, plus moves the cruising RPMs to a different spot.. where they would be higher.. more in the power curve and further exaggerating the issue. Technically, there is no TPS adjustment, it's factory set, at least not on 06/07 (that's the service manual I have) but I did adjust it on my friends bike cuz it was completely unrideable unless you were accelerating. You need a special safety Torx bit if I remember right and you will be braking away factory applied locking agent brushed over the screw head. I used the PC software to see how far I was adjusting it since it already had a PC installed and it was a simple way to get a reading. Then, of course, you have to recalibrate the TPS setting in the PC. I mean, it might be an issue with the TC.. but sure sounds like TPS calibration to me.
My two cents.

MotoCycho that sounds like the best guess so far, as it really does feel like the bike isn't getting any fuel, then it gets some, then it doesn't, then it does etc. It only occurs just off the closed throttle stop. I can 'manage' it by opeing the throttle a tiny bit more, but it always shows up on a slow but steady corner where you are all but rolling around it and just feathering the throttle to keep the speed you want.
It does not have anything to do with TC, as the problem is the same with TC on or off.
If indeed it is the TPS then I'm going to have a real battle with the dealership proving it and getting it fixed, as their 'fix' will no doubt be going back to a factory 17T sprocket

Yep Greggy the lower gearing of the 16 tooth is definately exaggerating a fueling problem of some kind. Higher gearing tends to mask off-throttle issues more, lower gearing makes them more noticeable.

-- 2 cents
--when changing sprocket ,we might need to change the rotors on the traction control
--engine speed vs wheel speed thing
--so maybe a 16 front may need less holes in the rotors so the ecu doesnt get confused
--maybe one of the machinists we have,(Brock) lol-- could prototype an aftermarket rotor set for the T/C
by the way --if it works-- i will need a set !!!!!!!!

--more 2 cents
maybe an electronic device like a sp__do h__ler --linked in line to the traction control pickups--and adjustable so we can offset for different sprocket combos!!
maybe im just bored waiting for warmer weather
i just need to ride!!!!

I have changed back to the 42 stock sprocket and the problem is gone. I then video taped it came back to the shop only replacing the rear sprocket to a 44 and the problem comes back, instantly when you pull off till 3500 rpm or so i had people stand outside the shop and it is very noticable. I hope to have a fix or a complete answer very soon as to why or what is doing. Im going to try differnet sprockets and see if it happens to all gear changes from one down on the front and 3 up in the rear going to try all different combos
