Break in?
Havnt gotten my new 14R yet but its on order, just wondering what everyones general census on break in on a new bike is. I was always told dont hammer it till 1000 miles, then i hear ride it from day one like your going to ride it. Whats everyone else do?

Get the bike to operating temp which is 3 bars. idle for 4 minutes should get you to op temp. Hop on ride soft to test the bike --very brief, run through thte gears low rpm test brakes- DONE screwing around get to it..
Hope you have a long straight cop free road within a few blocks or else this isn't going to be possible.
here's your break in list:
1st gear, 3 runs, 1/4 throttle, roll off quick, full decel.
idle to 2000 rpm
idle to 3000 rpm
idle to 3000 rpm
2nd gear, 3 runs, 1/2 throttle, roll off quick, full decel.
2000-4000 rpm
2000-5000 rpm
2000-6000 rpm
3rd gear, 3 runs, 100% throttle, roll off quick, full decel.
2000-7500 rpm
2000-9000 rpm
2000-1100 rpm
Change oil ASAP. Use Spectro Conventional Blue cap DO NOT use the synthetic with gold cap.
Ride hard. no low rpm cruising. Lots of variety. low to High. lots of decelerating. Lots of wide throttle opennings, do high rpm runs change oil again at about 200 miles. change oil /filter with Spectro conventional again.
keep on it hard but you can ease off a bit. Do some normal riding if you like. Change oil/filter at 400 miles use Spectro again.
ride progressively smoother. Change oil at about 1000 miles and then at 2500 miles. Keep on using the Spectro, it has metalic additives that are great for a fresh engine and you are dumping all of your natural metals out with the frequent oil changes.
2500 normal riding. Do what you want from there on in. Change oil every 2500. I would stay with conventional motorcycle oil but it doesn't need to be Spectro any more. If you want to switch to synthetic, be absolutely certain the engine is completely worn in. That is debatable. waiting longer prolly safer than going to synthetic too soon.
Here's a link to where I got my ideas. That page has been floating around cyberspace for ever. Lots of people consider it gospel. It worked for street breakin of my busa. You can do it on a dyno too. Track would be perfect and very safe.

I did a gentle break in on my 14. Woulda killed myself trying to do a race break in. I'm totally happy with the performance of the 14. Can't say I can detect any big difference bewteen it and the busa which was broke in high rpm. Personally I think it matters very little if at all how you break in a modern sportbike engine. I did what gave me best peace of mind. Been happy with both bikes broke in totally different ways.
