Anyone with a Cycle Tek air shifter ( help )
The install went real easy .. Everything was pretty much plug and play .. Tested the kill box with the bike running in the shop and killed the motor fine ... Checked the ram and it worked fine ... Problem number one , i hit the shift button and all my dash lights come on , oil light ,check engine light , TC light, turn signals, high beam light , all of them flash when i hit the shift button ... Problem number two , i took the bike out to see if it would shift under power ...NO it will not .. I will shift under 3000 RPMs , Kills works and ram worked ... But anything over 3000 nothing works , Ram doesn't move and no engine kill .. No phone number listed anywhere for Cycle Tek so i sent him two emails today and have not heard back from him ..
I have installed 100s of air shifters and never had this kind of problem .. Took the bike all back apart and double checked all the wiring and all looked good , even switched some wires around and same outcome ... No matter what i did same things happened .. I don't know where i went wrong ... Anyone have a clue ?
Thanks

Sounds like you may be using a bad power source or tapped into the wrong coil wires.

Where did you tap into the wires?

Schnitz harness has a long pig tail from each coil that goes all the way back to the kill box , this way you don't have to use those cheap wire taps and cut into your factory wires...

Lee....this shifter has worked great for us on the Gen1 14's. Make sure you are tapped into the right wires. Otherwise it would have to be a 14R-specific issue...
I tapped into the 4 coil wires, back at the ecu...per the cycle-tek instruciton, on our Gen 1's. Check you color-coding, it is different on the 14R....

Shane no taping into any wires .. the Schnitz coil harness just plugs in to the coils and the old coil wires plugs back into them .. some what like the P/C does .. if you get my meaning .. Maybe they have changed something on the new zx14 . Wees bike works fine with his air shifter but he is using and MPS kill box i believe ..

Very weird, we have a cycle-tek on all 7 bikes and never had a problem, this has to be something 14r specific.

take a look at that harness and make sure it's going to the negative side(different color on each coil) of each coil.

Lee. It's annoying when stuff doesn't work, but be assured, Matt is a great guy. I swapped more than a dozen emails with him before and after buying kit from him and he often got back within the hour! He is very helpful and if it proves to be a problem with his stuff he will sort it.

After taking the bike apart for the 5th time today i gave up and tossed the Cycle Tek crap in the trash , all 404.00 dollars of it ! ... I got the color codes from Wheelie and tapped into the ECU wire like he did with his MPS box and not at the coils like i had it last night ... SAME DAMN THING HAPPENS .. No matter how you hook it up it's set off all the dash lights ...
I traced the wires from the ECU to the coils and i had them hooked up to the right wires using the Schnitz harness ..
Wee said his works fine and sets off no lights on the dash .. He is using the MPS auto shift so his it not hooked up to the horn button like mine is ... Only thing i can figure is the wiring in the horn button has something to do with it not working .. I have switched the wires as Matt ( Cycle Tek ) told me to try at the horn ..Still Nothing ... ..I'm going to order a MPS auto shift like wheelies using and hook it up just like his to the ECU wiring using the same color codes he used ... Remember i tried this allready with the Cycle Tek kill box and still doesn't work and flashes all the dash lights .. The problem has to be in the horn switch wiring ( gen 1 vs gen 2 ) or the Cycle Tek kill box ..

Damn, Lee. We had great service from Matt. He is not a huge business, and he has a day job. Sorry it didn't work out for you.
I'm very interested in whatever issue makes this stuff not work on the 14R...

Smokin, I don't know much on this ,but a friend of mine went through problems also trying to use a horn button for the shifter, they intalled a air shifter push button(one from the dynojet quick shifter) & the shifter worked.. It seems like something conflicting when trying to use the horn button????

why don't you make your own button from a micro switch from radio shack instead of using the horn button

Lee I installed the MPS horn switch on wifes gixxer and buddys beemer works great, has a toggle to switch the horn to a shifter button then back to horn operation incase you still want to shift with a button. I was looking at the mps autoshift and it says u can still use a button but correct me if im wrong...you need msd pills for the rpm you want it to shift in the auto function?
