dyno runs

Hi , just wondering what gear the dyno runs are done in?it obviously depends on what gear as to how it shows peak horsepower . Im going to get my turbo done shortly and want an accurate run to see what peak horse and torque curves are.Its easy to fudge figures pulling lower gears or different sprockets etc for me it should be done in nearest direct drive from engine as possible........
I have always been very sceptical about these figures what do you guys think?

When mine was done, it was 5th.... Not sure if that is the standard but thats what Frank from Powerhouse used for whatever reason...

I can only speak from a ton of cars I have dynoed. Whatever gear is as close to 1-1 is the gear that gives truest numbers. Curve should be effected a lot less. My vette has a gm 6 speed auto in it and it does not have a actual 1-1 gear. 3rd is less 4th is more and the curves stay the same while if I remember correctly 3rd read slightly higher.

I don't think it matters what gear it's in, or what the gearing on the bike is. By what I've heard, it's going to read very close to the same number. They usually use a higher gear so it won't spin on the dyno.

I've been told Dynojet recommends 4th gear for tuning.
I believe this is because nearly all bikes are running "clean maps" by 4th gear.
ie. no timing changes or secondary flies affecting the map like lower gears.

The higher gears allows for more time to gather data..... it takes longer to hit redline, thus allowing you more time to capture data, and give you a mesureing for top speed; also how long it took to get that speed.... it depends upon what you are trying to learn..... things like improvements compared to stock in relation to time it takes to get to a given mph compared to stock.
