Brock's Radial brackets on '12 14R.... Pics

Brock's radial bracket questions.

The caliper mounting bolts are counter sunk and even with the supplied shims the radial brackets hit the calipers and cause a little damage if you tighten the bolts. When I started to tighten the caliper bolts I noticed it didn't feel right and disassembled and found the clearance issues.

Looks like I would need to tighten quite a bit more to get a good torque. What did you guys do? Tighten all the way and let the radial brackets "clearance" the calipers?

That's what I did but the supplied washers are only .040 and it looks like about a .100 thick washer would be needed for clearance.

Yeah I put .090 thick washers in and the brackets just barely hit. I'm a little worried about thread engagement. I've always thought you needed at least the diameter of the bolt in thread engagement. Example would be 1/2" bolt needs minimum 1/2" thread engagement?

Huh,,, maybe yours came with thicker washers?

With the .090 washers the thread engagement is only 1/4" and the caliper bolts are 3/8" diameter. That's only 4-5 threads holding for each bolt.

They would probably be fine but I think I'm gonna get longer bolts and .100 thick shims.

Rule of thumb is 1.5 times diameter for thread engagement

On my 06 bike I used four M10 x 70mm Titanium Fine pitch socket cap bolts, (part number TISC1070F from Pro-Bolt) as I thought the threads on the standard caliper bolts would be too short.

I also used a non-permanent thread lock.

Same here on my 09.

It seems the 2012 calipers may be slightly different. Best bet is to measure the length of your stock bolt and add the thickness of the bracket (and any washer you use).

Mine are still in the package.

I'll take a look when I get a chance.

VINCE12 - Thank you so much for complicating my life!!! J/KI! LOL!

Actually, good catch.

The stock 10mm bolt screws in about 12.5 turns on my 14R.
Add the bracket and the washer(s) and it only catches 5 threads.

That's not even close to "enough" for me, so I ordered the M10 x 70mm Titanium Fine pitch socket cap bolts that BobC referenced (except from Pro-Bolt USA), since I couldn't find them locally.

I'm sure that the stock bolts have been used on many 14's so they *should* work OK.
I just don't like the thought of my calipers breaking loose at 150mph +
