Changed to Full Syn oil and Petron ..

I wasn't going to post this because i think some might think it just hype ... I switched to full SYN oil 10w 40 and added Brocks Petron ... I can't say it's the oil or the Petron but this thing really runs much stronger that it did before the change ...It idles smoother , revs quicker and pulls harder .. I noticed the temps were lower ... Trans shifted smoother and less noise also .. Call me crazy if you like but i'm pretty good at feeling small changes in my cars and bikes .. Again i don't know if it was just the oil or the Petron or both that did this , but something has changed for the better ...

I am going to make this switch soon as well. I do think the 14R trans feels very slick, so I can't wait to feel the improvement! Thanks for the heads up!

When I switched, i went from Lucas 30wt to less then zero and petron, and I noticed the temp of the motor was cooler and the thing was quieter too. I did notice however my idle was a little different, so I just turned it down. Good stuff, and dont worry about riding it on the street- it's perfectly safe for street or strip.

Did you just put Mobil 1 in it like you normally do with the addition of the additive? Or are you trying the less than 0w oil from your other thread? I know you stated it was 10w 40, just trying to get it all straight...lol I can't get a new 14 right now, so I need to get all I can out of the one I have.

I had some Amsoil 10w 40 in the shop so i used that along with the petron .. I'm saving the 0wt oil till i get a handle at the track on this new bike .. Once i start getting some good base line numbers i will give the 0wt oil a shot and see if it picks up any ET ..

Let me get this right....can 0W or less than zero be run on the street? If so, do you change it more often?

I run 0w20 Valvoline in my snowmobile (engine is a 1000cc sister of the R1)....lots of time spent at a steady 8000rpm to 10700rpm! I change it every 500 miles! (mind you, the oil is not beaten to death by a gear box)

Petron feedback...

Smokin:

Definitely interested to hear how the Petron works for you and how frequently you add it. I am going to run Mobil 1 full synthetic, but it will be good to know if the Petron is a viable and..cost effective extra to add to the mix. Thanks for keeps us all in the loop and good luck with the doctor stuff you have upcoming.

Do what you do bro,

I'm running the <0w and the additive that I buy from Brock's during the Winter only. But since I've got one of the old inferior 14's that are now obsolete, I need every advantage I can get. I have yet to make a trip back to the dyno to see if it added any power but my butt dyno says it added at least 100. That's how I justify spending so much on the stuff anyhow.

Hey smokin, question for ya. What synthetic oil do you think I should use for the street? I hear u talkin a lot about synthetic oil and the Petron additive. I'm using the Kawai oil now but from what I'm reading the synthetic oil along with the Petron will make the bike have a little more hp and run smoother. My bike has over 12,000 miles on it. I'm local to Cycle World of Cherry Hill so that's where I get my lubes. Will it help reduce cct chatter as well?

jzx, thinner oil isnt going to make your engine quiter. by what ive seen, and talked to people that have used <0 oil it makes your engine a lot louder, but thats just what i hear from people at the track that use it.

Use mobil one or amsoil for the street and track ... I'm going to try the 0wt oil down the road for track testing only .. Right now i feel safe riding on the street with the amsoil with the petron .. Not much of anything you do is ever going to stop the CCT rattle .. I would do the zx12 CCT mod or wait and see if the new zx14r fits the gen 1 engines .. My bet is it will ..

When I put mine in with the petron additive, I filled the site glass to the top- remembering a post you said that it may sound louder or something to that effect. I had a throttle cable screw back out right after I did the change and it wigged me out when my bike didnt want to idle. Went to the track and went 8.99 and smoked my clutch on that pass( drag pack). After the clutch change, I put another jug of <<0 and more petron and thats when I noticed how good the stuff really is. I think after talking to Brock's guys about it and Bryan Snyder, who has built many 14's and ran Alisyn, I was educated on how this oil works on these new "tight" motors, so my experience with it so far is solid- however, my experience with MR12 is not, and those guys love the stuff.

What weight do you think? Any noticeable gains in hp just riding on the street with synthetic and petron?

Guys, We change the <<0 every 3K miles or so and thats with A BUNCH of drag strip passes and the Petron every other oil change.

The Alisyn is the highest quality oil you will ever find, you don't change it more... you change it less. Please lose the 'thicker is better' mindset. Bill Warner runs 0w-20 in his 1000 HP 312 MPH turbo bike!

One of my crew guys sold his 2001 GSX-R1000 with 14K trackday, drag strip and street miles--it had never had anything but <<0 in it. 100 degrees, humid, Keith Codes school at Mid Ohio... it doesn't matter. The bike has changed hands multiple times since then (street squids) still runs great!

If you are simply scared... run the 0w-20. FYI: I run 10w-30 in my 1697cc 10 mill billet stroker Busa that makes 278 RWHP (they are bearing eaters, but I've never scuffed one)

Brock, can that oil and additive be shipped to Canada?
I currently use 0w20 Synthetic Valvoline and half a can of Molyslip....but would entertain the use of your Alisyn and Petron!!

It is interesting that you say they use the <<0 in 100F, whereas my use would be in 33F or COLDER!!

So go with the full synthetic Mobil 1 or the Alisyn? 10 weight and Petron additive maybe a little more performance? Is the Petron additive available at most cycle shops?

I haven't seen petron anywhere, for the money, Alisyn is what I would use, less weight =more hp.

Order them both from Brock's- it ships quickly.

So Brock,
On a stock motor zx 14 how many drag strip passes would you run this oil and additive before you change it? No street miles just 1/4 mile.

When we put the <<0 Wt and Petron in Racheal's bike, we picked up 3 hp with no other changes....in back-to-back pulls. That was going from Amsoil 10/40. So, the results are very real. I have some <<0 and Petron on order. I hope I can get some dyno time to test it compared to "regular" dino oil, I suspect that the results may be even greater.

I saw a gix 1k with 2.5 quarts of that <0 use 2 tires on a dyno and during an all day tune in the summer heat. Using that stuff under any conditions, that oil is not going to fail.
