New guy questions

Hello to all! New guy here...not new to the bike world though. I will try to figure out the picture thing later when i havent been drinking. ..i have a few cool turbo bike i(we) built to show youall. anyway......made up my mind(now that i got my job back! yaaee,) that i deserve a ZX14.I have studied what i can but want to hear the real facts form owners::: I want the blue:::what years started having better(adjustable) suspension? what are the first best mods one does? I see lots of exh.system choices ...i want to save weight and make alittle more HP,but not to sound too rude. AT what point regarding exh.systems is the PCM a must (slip-on's vs.full ) I have another group of questions i will save for next time,,,Thanks

I should have mentioned my plans to buzz around my back country roads of Pa. and Maryland so back road capable is my goal. Looking at 07 to 09 price wise. Are all their suspensions similar? and a simple exh. and PC,is ness. Gen-mar/heli-bar setup maybe a taller w/shield? Will have to educate myself regarding butterflies ?

As far as I know all the suspensions remained the same between 06-11. I had Heli-Bar risers on my bike and they do make it a tad more comfortable, especially if you are taller. If you are just going to be street riding you wouldn't have to worry about removing the secondary butterflies on an 08-11 but is pretty much necessary on an 06-07 unless you want it to be really neutered under 6k rpm. And if you ask me (and most of the people on the forum), don't mess around with slip-ons, they are a waste of money. You will get tired of them, sell them cheap and buy a used system. If you keep your eyes open on the classifieds here or on Psychobike you can find a good used full system for 400-700 dollars most of the time. Everything else is preference. I prefer Brock's, the power, sound, map support, and most importantly the customer service are top notch. Have fun and post up some pics when you get it.

I guess it works...yaae me! Recent creation.. i'll call it ...confused.lol 1327 EFI Electromotive,Alky......never got it sorted...new owner did (good for him) it went 8.30 @164 for me. made 300 at the wheel . Fuel delivery issue on track..(for me). .it needed a check valve...on the leave fuel would stall in the line from g's (had an 18" straight section from cell to fuel rail) .stuttered... then would go. Thanks for the info Dakota..glad to hear brock's stuff is the way to as i do like his pipes the best. Will he have maps to load into a PC or does he sell the PC with tune loaded? Or?

He has maps you can load, or he does sell them with his maps loaded. He has an assortment of maps for street, flies in, flies out, LSR, race fuel (mr9), etc... Just let them know your set up when you put in the map request.

Great thing about Brock is that he will give you a map even if you didn't get the pipe from him.

Blue is 06, 07 ver similar hues. 08 was midnight sapphire blue which is black with huge blue flakes. Looks black for the most part except where the light hits it the strongest.

:::what years started having better(adjustable) suspension?

suspension is soft on all years 06-11. especially the front. I am a bit over 200 lbs and th erear suspension seems quite adequate to me.

The new 2012 is supposed to have a much better suspension for sport riding.

Go with a full system. Shorai battery is also a nice weight saver. I would love light weight wheels but they are not cheap. Full system akrapovic might be what you want. Any Brock's will be loud.

I would get the PC on there rught away before the exhaust system. Lots of people claim they have run a full system w/o a PC and had no problems. I would rather not risk that though. Every one does that so I followed suit.

thanks guys.... great info. I assume the P/C map adjusts fuel curve to match the pipes characteristics and maybe add some timing? maybe fan intervals? ..but his pipes are loud....all of them? =not good for me as i live in a real quiet area. what about muzzy's pipes..?would like to support a vendor though. Was hoping the susp.would be on the firm side...i just added a penske rear and race-tech front,susp to my currant ride for about 700... will have to wait and see and hope for the best there. Stuck between black or blue...black is beautiful for sure, but common(no offense).... just dont know. Will miss my FJ1200

From your first post, I'm assuming you are talking about the ZX14 not the R.

Get yourself some beer, sit back, send the missus out, cage the kids, and read the 'bible' on how to improve a ZX14 (not the R) ;

Power Commanders only adjust fuel. And not all of Brock's pipes are loud. I had a Gen III system on my ZRX1200 and it wasn't too loud and it was only the 14" version. If you went with a Brock's Gen III with the 21" oval muffler it would not be any louder than any other full system out there.

Here is the 14"system on my ZRX.
