I see no problem with keeping a Gen 1 and modding it to run with the new bike ..The gen 1 is a great bike , far better than the Gen 2 busa in my mind .. Keep in mind i leave my motors untouched and i like them that way ..
With that being said the new bike is way more than extra power ..Here is a short list of the new goodies on the Gen 2 ..
We wanted more power and Kawasaki said ok and gave us 190+ to the tire ..
Lighter pistons , stronger pistons and stronger rods, we got them
A bigger stronger timing chain , we got it ..
Bigger cams , we got them..
More CCs , we got 1441 of them ..
CCT rattle to go away and it did..
A better head , we got it .
Less heat on your legs , you got it
A better seat , you got it . The old was fine for me ..
Better looks , you got it . I wanted sharper body lines and got them.
Some wanted a slipper clutch , you got it ..
2 fans , you got them.
A real temp gauge and not bars , you got it
Lighter wheels like the zx10 , you got them.
A oil drain plug moved , you got it.
T/C and wheely control and power modes , you got it
Easier to read speedo and tach , you got it .
Brake rotors that didn't warp , you got it.
More wheel base ( me ) and we got it .
Better shocks and valving , we got it.
We didn't ask for a stronger frame but we got it anyway ..
Better tires , we got them .
Some felt the swing arm looked weak , no more can you say that .
We didn't ask for a bigger air filter but we got it. And they also tossed in better Ram air system ..
Everybody wanted better Aeros and we got them.
They even gave us and outside temp gauge and an eco light for better MPG ..
They also gave us a very cool looking Key to start the bike ..
To me that is a shit load of upgrades ...
Now add the icing on the cake .. My fully modded 09 174 hp to 175 hp SAE .. My NOT fully modded with 75 miles on it 197.4 SAE .. I picked the 2012 ZX14R, But i would have no problem owning a 2011 ZX14 either .. I know with a little port work and Milling the head will get you 184 to 185 HP , been there done that .. So pick what you want and have fun ...
I get what master is saying .. It's very possible that most riders will go faster on the Gen 1 over the Gen 2 at stock wheel base ... Reason being is the gen 2 has to much power to use for most riders .. And like he said it's no question with a long arm what bike is going to be faster ..

smokin, your post of upgrades makes me so sad....LOL!!
I am still happy to be driving one of the most bad ass bikes ever built, even with a measly 175-180 rwhp SAE that it's got!!
