Well if the new bike is putting out about 1 horsepower for about every 3 pounds and the old bike is putting out about 1 horsepower for about every 3.4 pounds then the power to weight ratio is MUCH better even with the extra weight.

There is on;y 18 pounds difference between Gen 1 and Gen 2, and its all in the exhaust!

Can't just compare peaks, new zx14r has AT LEAST 185ish from 9000rpm to limiter! It doesnt drop off like previous models.

This represents a bigger jump than the Busa over the 11 and XX.
I didn't think in this day and age any manufacturer would have the balls to do that. Well done Kawasaki!

I'm curious to weather or not the new 14 will pick up as much hp as the first version does with aftermarket full exhaust, filter and tune. I'm betting not, being that it has such a good exhaust system out of the box. It seams like the new 14 is in a "higher state of tune" than gen 1 and defiantly the gen 2. The gen 2 gave up lots of hp up high due to the ritch air fuel mix to keep the catalyst from damage.

Between 6,000 and 10,000rpms the 2012 ZX-14R is an absolute torque monster - the older ZX-14 models and the Busas will feel wimpy compared to the new 14R

Well WHEE u need to look at it again the 011 was never let to rev to the limiter like the 012 even tho it might no have made too much diff, i will keep my 06zx14 with very little modes on pumpgas and no power adders,1417cc street and strip it will still stomp the 012 in the hp and tq department, ,not being neg but after u have ridden a 215+ zx14 for 5 yrs this is kinda boring, congrats Kawasaki u finally had the balls to make the 14 what it should have been in the first place it only took 6yrs it took me 2yrs.and by the way that 011 in the vid is my younger brothers bike.

You asked why you only took the 011 to 11,000, and you took the 14r to redline?
Again 11,000 is redline on both bikes

You are beating a DEAD HORSE to death!
It’s only math.
Let’s assume your numbers are correct. 30 additional pounds makes nearly no impact on 30 HP.
Old 14 @ 555 lb + 180 lb rider = 735 lb:
735/165 = 4.45 lb/hp
14R @ 584 lb with the same rider:
764/195 = 3.92 lb/hp
The 14R is going to KILL the 14, all other factors being equal.

30lbs has no impact? really that takes a way at least .10 if not .12 that 30 hp gets you, I don't care how you look at it.

I haven't received an answer yet that makes sense as to why the literature states a 30 pound increase, but when the press ask that question at the press intro, they were told its only an 18 pound difference!
So you know me......I rolled the Brock's Alien head equipped Roaring toyz CUSTOM bike(heavy front wheel,grips,see thru clutch cover,lots of chrome) over to the scales in Fla, and it only weighed 520 pounds, so then I took my 2010 school bike to the scales and it weighed 515.

I did not say “no impact” – I said “nearly no impact on 30 HP.”
I’ll concede that 30 lbs added to 2 equal HP bikes will make a noticeable difference, but we are not talking equal HP here.
Try this a different way.
Same example above:
Old 14 @ 4.45 lb/hp.
14 R at 30 lb. more would need 764/171.7 = 4.45 lb/hp
So we used up 6.7 HP to compensate for the extra weight.
That leaves us about 23 extra HP to move the 14R down the track – substantial, no?

I am trying to figure out how you can see where I stop revving both bikes when the dyno sheet doesnt even show 11k rpms?
I actually revved the 2011 to 11,400 on the tach before the rev limit came in, but I could only rev the 2012 to 11,200 because the limiter came in earlier
Anyway the 2011's hp had peaked at 10k and dropped to 154hp by 10900 which made it 41hp off the 14R at at that same rpm.

Don't quote me on this but I think the days of picking up alot of hp just by adding a pipe,filter, and pc MIGHT(and i said might) be a thing of the past!
My 2011 ZX10 proved that to me in a big way!
It still has a slip on.......

Wow that's a massive increase in hp and torque and it should pick up more with more miles on it...Looks like Ricky was proven correct on his assessment of the new ZX14...He sure took a lot of flak and was right the whole time.
