Head Gasket & Cam degreeing ?
Is it ok to reuse a head gasket? Only 5K on motor. Also thinking about removing a layer of the gasket to increase CR. What layer should I remove and can this be expected to last on a daily driver?
Also have adjustable sprockets and could anyone tell me what degrees to set intake and exhaust cams to if I put on a thinner gasket.

I would say not to use the stock head gasket over but that's might be just me. I would rather spend to 80.00 dollars for a new one then have to take the enging back out and apart. I've been told 105 105 on stock cams. sure others will chime in on this

I don't recommend reusing a head gasket unless you absolutely have to.
Your better off milling the head instead of using a thin gasket. A thinner head gasket effects squish by reducing the piston to head clearance. Milling the head doesnt. Both effect piston the valve clearance and both effect compression.
I recomend a supersport head and the 47mm throttle bodies. On pump fuel it makes about 200 hp and on mr12 about 210.
As for cam timing you need to check your piston to valve clearance but, 107/107 should be ok for what you are talking.

I would just buy a thin cometic gasket for it. Do you have a cam degree kit?

Having a local shop do the degreeing as I don't have a kit and haven't done it on a bike before. Also was told I needed to adjust valves before degreeing. Is that true? I would think if you check squish after degreeing, that would let you know if any valves need to be shimmed for proper clearance
How much are the AA head and 47mm TBs?

Actually squish has to be checked and set before you even get to the cam degreeing part. The valve lash has to be correct and is not based on piston to valve clearance.
You builder should be able to get you set up. Give us a call on the SS head package...860-274-0631. We will be at the orlando PRI trade show from Wed to Sat.

1. set squish
2. set valve lash
3. degree cams
4. check PTV,
if PTV too tight:
1-go to bigger cam CL's or
2-add more squish or
3-get different pistons or
4-sink seats
easy as 1-2-3-4
