Dzus Fasteners on stock body?
These little devils sure do catch my eye. Looks like a set of 18 for top, side and maybe ram air covers is gonna cost about 100 bucks. I need to know some things before I blow that $$$ on a handful of screws.
#1. Main concern is if it will work. Has anyone used Dzus fasteners on the stock ZX-14 fairings? If so, what length is correct or what brand/source should I look to?
#2 Will the holes in the stock fairings be large enough or will I need to ream them?
#3 I already have my doubts as to whether these things will make fairing removal go faster. I like how they look but I think they will be a PITA when I need to remove them. Do the Dzus fasteners fall out? Does the locking clip inside get lost easily? Is it more difficult to line the holes up when installing the fairings?

These things w the D-rings in case you call 'em by some other name. Quick release, quarter turns, pannex bolts.....

I would be interested if there was a way to make those work with the catalyst seat.

They come in different lengths. 14 mm is the longest I have seen on the net. That is what is recommended for OEM bodywork. I'm sure that varies. 14 mm sounds a bit long for the thickness of my panels.

Kurveygirl has got a nice 10 pc set for $30 which is about as cheap as I have seen. Only thing, they don't seem to have the same kind of catch as other Dzus fasteners I have seen. Maybe that is because this is the new style, as they claim on the site? Looks lower quality than the catches that have the spring bar. This one seems to be just a thin sheet meta cut out with a couple tabs.

I did a search and found some nice anodized ones but they were more expensive. Sure be nice if anyone had some experience with these on a 14 and could chime in.

Thanks, I came across those too. They look very nice. Strong, lightweight and nice finish too. They are going to cost you if you need 18. You buy 1/qty, looks to me. $6.40/piece gonna be a fortune. I would def want to know they work.
The questions stand,
#1 DO they work on stock body panels of the ZX-14?
#2 Do the holes need to be reamed? I saw something that said the hole had to be 1/4" and I don't think the holes are that big.
#3 Is it actually more tricky to get a Dzus fastener to lock than it is to turn in an OEM fairing bolt?

1) They will not replace all of the fasteners. For example, the ram air covers will require screws. The lowers will require screws. The Foreman Grills will require screws.
2) The holes need to be an appropriate size for the pin to slide through (on both panels).
3) They lock pretty good from what I can tell.
I installed some on my ZX-12R project bike, the ones from from KG. I got them off of Ebay:

They are nice, but the 14 has a lot of fasteners, and you will end up needing to use a fair amount of screws anyway. I wouldn't bother on a street 14; in my case I had to drill holes in the race bodywork already. But if you have just gotta have that "look", go for it! 
Anyway, that's my .02.

yup. That's the main motivation for me. I don't remove bodywork all the time. Thanks for info.

I can see that some of the OEM panels have a recessed area the OEM fastener drops into. The two large screws on each of the foremans are an example. Also the the bottom two screws on the lowers.
Seems to me Dzus fasteners should work on the 3 small fasteners at the top of the lower and also the 3 fasteners where the side adjoins the top fairing. That is IF the holes are the right side. Looks like the pins would fit through the OEM holes from he photo you posted. -----but maybe the pins need a little wiggle room to avoid cracking?
Yeah, the ram air covers prolly not gonna work with Dzus fasteners. You have one solid mount screw wher the tank fairing and the side panel tab hangs on that short post. Then you have the front fastener which is in a pretty awkward position for a D-ring.

Maybe ok for a bling-bling show bike or a race bike where quick access is needed but surely in a sport like LSR, where we routinely tape over seams and fastners to achieve better aerodynamics, a Dzus fastener is counterproductive.

Good point. I bet you could find countersink pannex fasteners w/o the D-ring. i know I saw some sans D-ring.
