WPS Battery/Sluggish Starting
Has anyone had any experience with the WPS Batteries or ever heard of it. This year the police officers here in NC will be using the Concours 14 as their service Bike. Of course these bike will have much more electronics on it versus a civilian bike. They are equipping them with the WPS Brands Batteries instead of Yuasa. I'm currently using the Yuasa YTX14-BS but I'm looking for something with more cranking power. I have a 1417 and sometimes it's a bit sluggish to start. Any suggestions, maybe a second battery?

Try SHORIA. The Shoria 18A has 275 cranking amps compared to our 200. I love it. Almost 10lbs less weight. Lots of space left over for extras. I would post some pics but not sure how. Must work on it lol.

Big, all I know is the Cops around here are using the WPS battery instead of the Yuasa on the police bike. With all the extra electronics and lights on a police bike/car, I would think that they would want the best possible battery. I have thought about a 24 volt system but I have a few questions in regards to that:
1) Is this conversion possible?
2) Have you or do you know anyone who has done this conversion?
3) How labor intensive is this conversion?
4) What kind of battery would one use with this mod?
5) About what would the cost of a conversion such as this cost?
6) This conversion wouldn't have any safety concerns, would it? (I would hate to be riding down the highway and I start to fill a fire burning up under my Ass...lol!)

Romans, where would I get a battery such as this and what's the price? Sounds like it may be a great option. Are you saying the Yuasa YTX14-BS only has 200 CCA? I will send you my email and maybe emailing them will be easier for you...lol! I jus tried to PM you my email. It didn't go through. I would appreciate it if you can email me the pix of that battery to.

The kit that comes with the secondary battery is sold through Schnitz Racing. It is a complete wiring harness to make it work and let the bike charge both batteries..

The 14 amp will do it for ya and you'll have 1/2 lb less than the 18 amp.

Rook, Thanks for the pix! Do you use the Shorai as you only primary battery or as a 2nd battery in a 2 battery setup?

I used the 14 Ah as the ONLY battery for about 4 months. Then the bike went into extended surgery. Just coming out now. I expect the Shorai will fire up without a problem. The charger showed it to be fully charged after sitting in the bike without starting for about 2 months. I ran it for 200 mile day trips and commuting in town and out. Also a track day. No problems yet. Seems identical to OEM battery for performance but obviously much lighter.

The 14 Ah has identical specs to the OEM battery( you see printed on label in pics on last post). Not size of course.
I had heard of some problems with the 18 amp going totally dead for ever but that was apparently confined to some from the first batch that they made. Shorai replaced those batteries free for customers who complained.

I was one of those customers. Shorai sent me out a new one no questions asked. Still a big fan of what this Batt has to offer. Been going strong all season.

Romans, I thought the Shorai was a 14 amp. What's the major difference in a 14 amp vs an 18 amp battery? What amperage is the Yuasa?

14amp works well with the same CCA as your yusa. The 18AMP is upgrade for bit more money.
Works Great and spins that stater with Authority. 1417 won't slow down the Shoria 18amp. Big power. Sounded like that was what you were looking 4 ?
I've tried others, they ended up being a disappointment . Did you see the link I sent ? Lot's of us running Both ways.

Yes Roman, I saw that...Thanx! Tha Shoria is a lot more money. $180-190 (Shoria) vs $70 -$80 (Yuasa). What do I stand to gain by spending an extra $110-$120 dollars? I've read some good things about the Lithium and some not so good things about the Shoria. It's not so good in cold weather and it has been known to instantly go die.

What you stand to gain is a battery that is not sluggish . This was your goal correct ?
Shoria was put in a freezer then went into a zx-14. Started With No Problem. My other lithium batteries would not start below 18c. = Money waisted.
1st gen shoria had thin terminials and a couple of us had them die. Shoria solved at no cost to us, No longer a problem. Amazing customer service.
If any one knows of a battery with 275 cca as small as this one and only weighs in at 2lbs for less money. Please post.
My beliefe is, this is the best battery on the market currently. This is also new tech and is changing rapidily. Maybe something new and better coming down the pipe but for now this will solve your problem. Cheers
