Me and 2 friends did a 160 mile ride yesterday up to the cascades, 30-40 degree temps, long johns, blue jeans, a few heavy shirts under our leather jackets with light gloves. Cold but worth it.

Arctic socks, silkweight underwear, gaiter neck, heavy winter gauntlet gloves, and stop at every walmart to warm up. And I ride year round.
Of course, I am a Texan, so, its not like I ride in the snow

I have rode my bike in several feet of semi packed down snow last spring on mt baker (WA) at the ski lodge. To my suprise it did just fine, I was not going fast, just 1st gear.

75 degrees here in Abilene, TX yesterday. Got both bikes out for a short ride. Just a comfortable jacket on top.

Heated gear works very good for winter doldrums... Ive ridden the cascades myself in mid 20s and its sometimes too warm a neccessary item here its always wet and cool. I wear a t shirt and jeans plus outer leathers with the heated gear ..gerbings all the way!

You might also try a good 1-piece rainsuit,

Rajun:

If you don't have one, look also into a quality 1-piece rainsuit to wear over your normal chilly weather gear on a very cold day. Waterproof, yes but also very effective against the wind and holds in the body heat lost with regular chilly weather gear.

I live in central Florida but travel north on the bike regularly to visit friends and family as long as the roads are clear since I am from PA originally. My Triumph 1-piece suit worn over 2-piece leathers, works well down to the low 30's @ 80-90 mph. Low tech, but awesome for holding the windchill at bay if you don't have electric plug-ins. Of course the bike will run better with that cold dense air so have at it when the roads are clear.

Good luck and ride on bro,

Leo

Warm feet...

Rajun:

So far I have gotten away with just a heavier weight sock in my Sidi's. The key is to keep your "core" warm. As long as the vital organs are happy and warm then the warm blood flow to your feet and hands continues and the digits and toes stay warm. Just bought some Under Armor Coldgear yesterday which I have not tried before.

In the past I wore long underwear, leathers and then the rain suit. Problem with the long john's was some times I would actually sweat, but then not have the moisture dealt with which is NOT a good thing riding in the cold. Hopefully UA will solve that. Swear by their (UA) Hotgear under my leathers in the warmer months. I hope my experiences are helpful for you.

Good luck with it bro.
