Need some info on Quickshifters please, or advice please

I would appreciate any input that you guys can share. I currently have a Dynojet Quickshifter on my 14 (3rd one), and want to upgrade to a better product. Does anyone have experience with the HM Quickshifter Plus, Bazzaz, or any other brand that would be better? My first Dynojet took a crap after 2 weeks, next one lasted a few years, and last one was sporadic at best.... Then they wanted to charge me $200 to replace last one, Luckily I spoke with Dusty (Dynojet President). There are many different styles available and going to upgrade to a set of rearsets to get away from the antiquated linkage as seen below.

Does it make sense to just completely bypass the quickshifter & go for an air shifter for a street bike?

I don't think a air shifter is that great for the street. Unless you run co2, your only going to get 7-8 shifts out of 140psi. Then you got to pump it up again...

I can see some negatives to running an air shifter on the street, especially if not using an onboard compressor. Agree 100% Eklipse636. Grazo, $1,000 US is a little much considering you can have a complete MPS auto shift system with onboard compressor for half that, thank you for sharing anyway! I agree with you Justoyz2, definitely not cost effective (then again buying a new bike was not either... LOL). Currently leaning towards getting the HM Quickshifter and giving it a try. I was contemplating the PCV, with ignition module & quick shifter but dollars & cents wise it's the same exact thing and they are bike specific (Best feature with the PCV is you can change shift timings per gear). The HM Quickshifter does have a lifetime warranty, and is a standalone unit... . The distributor is on quite a few forums and has quite a few people giving him praise for his support and distributing a quality product... Have to decide in next 2 weeks, want to have everything here for the new bike when it arrives.

Just a little food for thought, Check your state law as far as "Lifetime" is considered for the purchase of products. Here in Indiana when you purchase a product with a "Lifetime" warranty it is only covered for 7 years. Some states are as little 2 years of coverage. Best to do a little research before you make a big purchase all depending....

I talk with Dusty often, If you are having a problem with the unit you are using, he gave me this part #: 4-118 – Stand along Ignition quickshifter

This can is a universal quick shifter, no fuel management device required; it's plug/play with our coils

The you have to use part # PWA4-104

These can be found cheap, didn't have any issues with this unit at all.

Dusty was a Gentleman and frankly the only reason why I would buy the Dynojet products again. He really went above & beyond to do the right thing. Thank you for the part numbers, hopefully Dynojet has a PCV out for the 2012 soon.

Hi,

What problems you guys have had with Dynojet´s shifter? Is the sensor unreliable or is it software related?
I was thinking to buy one for my -08.

Am I right that Dynojet just cuts off fuel while shifting? Does it put something like -99 on map or how does it exactly works? Would it be better to buy one that cuts ignition if using nitrous? (I was thinking to buy Nos set too, maybe 40-50hp kit, but that´s another topic)

The Dynojet quick shifter is a switch more or less, which cuts fuel for the specified time via software. It is what it is..... I spent the money now on the HM Strain gauge shifter, waiting on bike to install it now. Compared to the Dynojet it is a stand alone unit that cuts ignition as opposed to fuel. In addition the Dynojet quick shifter needs a power commander USB or a PCV with ignition module or quick shift module. HM shifter was $600, Dynojet quick shifter is $250 if you have a USB PC, otherwise you will need an ignition module for $325, or quickshifter module for $150 (all money amounts are approximate).

BTW, you add the shift RPM and kill time with power commander software, they supply the disc which adds functionality to existing power commander software.

Hi, thx for the answer,

Yes I know what HW is needed and also some basics.
I am just curious what is the problem with Dynojet´s quickshifter?
I was thinking that best value for money is going with PCV+HUB+Quickshifter if using NOS kit?

Also I was thinking that PC can´t cut off fuel totally, because it just makes perceptual changes to fuel map between ECU?

To keep this on topic, would you use PC quickshifter at my case (streetbike, low budget mods for standing mile) or what would you suggest?

Quickshifter is a mechanical switch, and 3 have failed on me personally. Dynojet did stand behind their product and warrantied them, all 3..... But 3 did stop working so therefore it was time to look at what their competitors were offering.I have no experience with nos, you might want to ask one of the experienced racers. Do you have a power commander now? If so add onto that, personally I spent the $600 on HM , hopefully it will be better.

I use a Dynojet quickshifter as my kill when airshifting at the track and for footshifting on the street. It has worked flawlessly for over 2 years.

Not yet. I am just about to start this project. That´s why I was asking.
Winter and snowy roads are knocking on the door here in Finland.

I´ve owned this bike 2 years now, 3rd kawi in a row Cheers.

Well I went with the HM Strain Gauge shifter from Annitori Distributing and it is 6 weeks later since the unit has been paid for and guess what? I still do not have a shifter. I spoke to 2 different people over there and they both told me the unit was sent out and I was going to be supplied with tracking information... Needless to say when I followed this up it turns out I was given incorrect information. My experience with Annitori Distributing has not been positive at this point, the only people who I have spoken with who seem to have a brain are Steve (the owner), or Paul (an employee). I would ask for my money back but unfortunately they are the distributors for the USA, so for this piece of equipment there will be a wait regardless. A delivery is expected before Christmas. so hopefully it will only be 2 more weeks waiting... Spoke to them today and they said end of next week... Its hard to be angry at someone who is so nice...

I love my Vortex rearsets. ONLY dislike is they weigh a tad bit more than stock pegs.

Also want a quickshifter to go with the rsets but fellow forum memeber recently told me the Pingle electric shifter (he got for ~$700 on sale) would not work withhis Vortex rsets shift lever. He had to put the old shift lever back on and set up like you have your DJ shifter, Nice shifter but I like the Vortex shift lever with the reasets. I guess you need to take your pick, I don't think you can have the nice gearbox linkage rod and the quick shifter together.

HM Quickshifter installed and got to say its light years ahead of the Dynojet Quickshifter I had on my 07. It was a little tricky getting it installed but it is a standalone unit, has no issues with the 2012 14R traction control, and is so smooth it's hard to explain. At high RPM's it hits the gears perfectly smooth, and fast as hell! I have been playing around with the timing, at 60 now and might go a little lower.

Guy's I used a CO2 air shifter setup on my twelve 10 plus years had two shift kill solenoids go bad on me and that was it. With a 1lb bottle you get are supposed to get 500 to 800 shifts before refilling not sure why the there is such a big difference, but that is alot of shifts and the only time i used it was when I was playing. You can do 16 0z. and 20 oz. paint ball tanks also. But an air shifter set up worked for me on the street. Wouldn't do a compressor setup for the street though.

Go with the C02 set up .. I had nothing by problems with the dynojet shifter ..

Call Matt at http://www.cycle-tek.com/html/index.htm
Matt is a great guy and a big help.. I used the 3 1/2 oz bottles and hid them where the tool box is now or was .. 60 to 70 shifts from the smaller bottle so i got two just in case ...
You can screw around with that quick shifter and waste time or spend 380 bucks and get it over with right now ..

Thank you for the advice Smokin & Tom, I do appreciate it but going to have fun with this unit for a while. I don't want to deal with a bottle or compressor, the HM unit is the best Quickshifter on the market according to the reviews. This is the same setup that many professional racers, teams & Isle of Mann riders use. A few things that sold this unit for me are-> No moving parts (all digital), Does not rely on movement of the gear lever (strain gauge technology), ultra smooth, no mechanical setup, no wire splicing needed, and fully customizable setup. So far I have been playing around with the setups and it's hard to explain how good it is unless you try it... I had the Dynojet unit on my 07 and it worked well despite the fact that I went through 3 of them.... This is just so much smoother... I am really impressed with this product, my bike shifts so fast, hard & smooth... With TC off it is a monster... So much fun!

so is this product just a safe way to speed shift? Not a conventional auto shifter like the MPS or the Pingle where it will shift gears using either the horn or some other type of button?

Yes it kills the ignition for the preset amount of time (from 40-150ms), which allows WOT clutchless shifts.

Cool.. I like the compactness. Like that it attaches to the linkage rod instead ofthe shift pedal. Seems like a winner. I want one. Looking online. Motomummy has 'em.

You just hold the throttle open and it shits all by itself when it hits a preset rpm.

What do you do to make down shift?
