Rear shock fix after stretching

Hey guys, on bumpy surfaces my bike is loud from bottoming the shock out and my ride on some surfaces is now bouncing all over. What do you suggest? Someone on another board told me to get a 2008 Busa rear spring for it and that will fix it...true?

Any suggestions is appreciated, thanks.

Nick set your rear shock preload ... Turn both adjusters all the way in ( clockwise ) till seated , then back them off ( counter clockwise ) a 1/4 of a turn ... That should help .. If it makes it better but doesn't fully fix the problem you may need to have the shock revalved for your weight ..

Ok, thanks smokin. I'm lowered one hole too which messes it up as well, huh?

I definitely will take your advice and get that done to my shock then.

Putting on a stiffer spring is only a bandaid (and a bad one at that). The stiffer spring will easily blow through the weak valving of the stock shock. Call TRAC DYNAMICS and get a revalved shock. They are inexpensive and work very well. I think I got a hayabusa spring (gen I, the gen II is too stiff imo) and drag racing revalve for around $175 shipped. Plus I still have the stock spring I can sell.

Went to racetech. I've noticed our stock rear is 9.7kg...I would get the 11kg.

A busa is 14.xxkg stock! It recommends a 17.xxkg for myself. Why do they recommend a 11kg for me on 14 and a 17kg on busa? Any idea man?

If I bought the Busa spring with the revalving, does that spring fit on our bikes just the same as the 14 spring?

Here's the thing.... I weigh 250 unsuited, and my bikes at about 66" right now (10ish" over) and I opted to go for the gen I spring because it's a little softer than the gen II spring. My local tracks won't prep like mirock, so I chose the softer of the 2 springs. The spring rate feels pretty good right now, but it doesn't hook up for shit on the street with 260+whp! 3rd gear hooks when the tires hot after spinning it, but if I'm just out on the freeway, it won't really hook till mid 3rd or 4th.... Sure is fun though!

The busa has different leverage against the shock. Something like prying with a long bar rather than a short.

I did that when it was stock length and not lowered since I'm not a lightweight guy. I'll have to see if I have more room to keep turning it.

You saying softer hooks bad, and stiff hooks the tire good? I'm new to the drag set-up scene. For some reason I would've thought it would be opposite.

Your right Nick, on the soft side is what you want...For an OEM shock...If too soft then the tire hits the inner fender so you have to adjust the spring rate until it doesnt hit anymore...For the heavier guys you need the tiger tail...

The revalved shocks are different while using a stiffer spring...When you sit on a bike with a revalve, shorter shock the spring is a little stiffer but hooks due to the way the revalve was done...dont confuse the two different set ups...

Nick stop over thinking this ... Run the bike with the stock shock set the way i told you before you touch anything .. I know a few guys at about 180 pounds that go low 1.30s 60s with the stock shock set up .. If you still have a problem THEN think about a revalved shock ..

I was running with a stock shock rebound and compression turned stiff. I tryed to tightened down the spring two turns and the bike would hop out of the hole, I am 205 unsuited, thinkin of a revalved shock this winter season, goin with a BMC RACING TECHNOLOGY revalve.

I wouldn't mess with Lonnie at bmc. I would send my shock to Adams and let them do it. Lonnie at BMC did mine, it's ok, he did not send me what he says he was, did not do it the way we talked about it, the spring was loose... I just wasn't satisfied. He told me if I shipped it back to him he would correct everything. If he didn't do it right the first time, do I need to ship it from GA to Cali again??

Im not saying that Penske, Ohlins or any of the revalve shocks with springs are not good, as a matter of fact they make a big difference in the suspension performance on any bike!!!

All im sayin is learn how to adjust the OEM suspension before just spending all that $$ on the Hi-Tech suspension goodies and STILL not know how to dial it all in by YOURSELF !!!

For a guy that weighs 150 all he has to do is adjust the rebound & compression...

For the 180 and heavier then your suppose to adjust the spring compression...I recommend 2 full turns clockwise...THEN adjust the rebound & compression to PRESERVE the shock by having the SPRING do most of the work...Ask those that rebuild shocks, thats what they will tell you...

The OEM shocks are not soo bad, you just have to adjust the rear spring compression then go for a ride on the street ot drag strip to see how it feels or if it hits the under tail, then adjust the rebound and compression...Yes, its very time consumming!!!...Then you move onto the front and again start with the spring compression then rebound and compression...You will see it most cases you will just have to turn the fork compression spring a half turn clockwise at a time to make a difference...

Just ask Smokin how fast he went on an OEM shock !!!

Is it hard to re-valve the rear shock myself?

I was considering purchasing the gold valves from racetech and do it myself if it's do-able.
