Tips for the 1/8 mile
Took my bike out to the 1/8 mile track for the first time tonight. My best was a 7.06@108mph with a 1.96 60' time. I was having a huge problem sliding back in my seat with my leathers. I had to reposition everytime just to shift to second because I was to far back to make the shift. Any tips on what I can do/use that will keep me planted to the bike. BTW I don't want to cut the seat. Thanks, James.

There's a sticky at the top that has a lot of good pointers in it.

The sticky definitely helped out but just wanted to know what I can do about sliding back in the seat. Any materials people used? Am I just being a pussy and not holding on tight enough? I put my feet in front of the pegs but by the time they get up I'm already at the back end of my seat.
These leathers are great for the mountains but when it comes to the drag strip they are just to slick for my seat.

Start with your left foot on the peg that way if u slide back u will have no problem shifting until you get use to the force of launching...

You could try something like this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NON-ANTI-SLIP-DASH-MAT-RUG-GRIP-MATTING-30CM-x-150CM-/250843729345?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Rugs_SM&hash=item3a67738dc1
but to be honest it may not solve the problem.
I'm a big guy running similar 1/8th times to you and when I saw some photos just after the launch you could see wrinkles in the side of the stock seat where my fat ass had dragged the seat cover and padding backwards!
I now run a cut seat

What Wheelie said. I bought a used seat. Had it cut and the guy who reworked it for me put the non-slip covering in the seat area where I sit. The rest was done with regular covering. It works great.

be on the lookout for a trashed seat...all you need is a good seat PAN. A decent upholstery shop can do the rest.

So I went out yesterday with a cut seat and it did help out a bit(much more consistent) but my pants are so damn slick that I still slid over the bump holding my ass in place. I'm going to add a little more material behind me this weekend. But I know my crappy times isn't just the seat but me. My best was 1.935 60' 4.58 330' 7.071 et @ 110.2 mph. What do you guys see here? I know my 60' times are horrible so what advice can you give that hasn't been covered in the drag racing 101 post? Little tricks/tips that work for you guys? BTW I just brought a strap and will be lowering soon but really want to work down my times before I put that on. Thanks, James.

What gear are you running? All the supersport guys used a stock front and -1 (40) in the back. Helps you get out of the hole a little harder without trying to fight wheelies as bad.
Other than that it will just take seat time, you will be surprised at what happens with practice. That is one of the reasons drag racing is so addictive, you keep seeing your times falling, keep trying to get better and beat your times.
Good luck!

I think your wearing the wrong kind of pants. Most guys here will tell you a 1.9 sixty is not really leaving hard enough to slide you back as hard as your sliding. Try racing in a pair of gene's one time and see you slide less. Most guy start to have sliding issues when the get down to the 1.5's .

I have a pair of Teknic leather pants but I think they are more suited for road racing rather than drag racing. I think the extra material will help in the back and I will wear jeans.

I am running stock gearing and I may have to try out the 40 tooth gear. I'll keep at it!
