Head work...

With the riding season coming to an end soon in the northern states my mind is beginning to think of winter modifications to the 14. My long term goals include going over 200mph on this bike without nitrous or turbo. I really want to have some head work done. I have several parameters that I must deal with:

I don’t know a lot about head work
I will have to ship the head out for work rather then drop off the bike (proly)
The bike needs to be streetable
I have to use pump gas 91 or 92 octane tops

The supersport option while inexpensive includes shaving the head which I understand brings its own set of issues, e.g., ensuring piston to valve clearances are ok and affecting future modifications. I've been told the supersport head with larger throttle bodies would be a cheap and easy first step and get the bike approaching 200hp with pump gas. (As my bike sits now Im just north of 180hp). But then again once the head is shaved its done for future mods...I think?

What looks good to me (both from a modification and dollar standpoint) is a Stage I with cam mod from Competition CNC or the 210 hp package from Carpenter. I have no idea how streetable the bike would be with either of these mods and can I still use pump gas?

Does it make any sense to go beyond one of the above mods if I'm leaving the case internals stock (at least for now)?

Any advice or direction would be appreciated.

Thanks guys for the props.
We work hard to design the best possible heads and engine packages.

The thing holding the zx14 back is the valve pockets in the stock pistons.

The Super Sport head is designed to work with stock pistons and cams. Its for the guy who is never going to put pistons and cams in the bike. With our super sport head, 47mm bored throttle bodies and mr12 fuel and a pipe of course, most customers are getting 210 hp. Or about 200 HP on pump fuel.

Once you put in aftermarket pistons with deeper valve reliefs then you can start to make big power with the zx14 because you can now put in the proper cams for a ported head.
You can even stay with stock bore, but you need deeper valve reliefs to get the proper cams in there that work with our CNC ported heads.
You have to match the valve window area to the ports minimum cross sectional area. Its that simple.
An added bonus to aftermarket pistons is the added compression you get. 13.5 to 1 C/R is good for pump gas or mr12 as long as its tuned properly at 12.8 A/F ratio.
Once you get above that C/R we recommend MR-X01 fuel and for anything above 15 to 1 we recommend Q16.

Thanks for enlightening us Jim.
So how much HP would a stock bore / stroke motor make with your cams , head and pistons,
..........compared to ported head with stock cams and stock pistons?

There are a few guys making 220 hp stock displacement with cp pistons and our head and cam package.
