Do I need this part?

The metal plate in front of where the air switch valve used to be. Looks like the screws fasten the inner plastic heat barrier walls that stick out on either side of the radiator. Also, there are a couple of small plastic plates that seem to block air from the radiator flowing over the top of engine.
Can I just pull all this junk out without causing any problems, plastic and metal plate? Anyone ever ride without the heat walls on?

that's what i figured. cooler engine, warmer air intake--i suppose it is 6 in one a half dozen the other. I am getting sick of looking at that stuff though. and it is a little more weight to dump.
thank you for the info

i like your attention to detail, davisag. Once in a while I hear someone express indifference about the weight of very light parts. I bet if added all the little things I have removed like reflectors and insulation as well as weight saved by replacing smaller stock items with aftermarket, I would have at least 20 pounds. I'm sure I could drop as much weight by losing and switching smallparts as i did by switching to aftermarket exhaust. It all makes a difference. Every little part.
