What about the little gadget that keeps you from shifting beyond neutral at rest?

yeah after al lmy tranny issues with the bike you have we ran a bone stocker in mine for a few weeks and forgot to take the balls out -- well the only race I got down the track on that bike I made the finals and then tranny locked up casue the ball fell out somehow.

Needless to say I have been blessed with this bike in the transmission dept. so far. Then again I'm not putting down any hp compared to what you were. Who knows, it may screw up next pass but I've been lucky so far. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!LOL

Sorry for hi jacking the thread!!!!! Back to business!

They are out of my ZX14 Drag Bike and if I ever take the tranny apart on my street bike they'll be gone from it too. That is unless someone comes up with a logical idea why they should be left in there. My understanding is that they are only there to make it easier to find neutral but then again what do I know.

Those little balls are there to keep you from shifting up from neutral while the bike is at rest.

They are part of the "Positive Neutral Finder Mechanism". When at rest the bike should only find 1st or N, never 2nd until you roll forward/backward. This is a easy way for new riders to find N without much searching and rolling back or forward. Reality is that you have to find 1st or at least 2nd before this mechanism even works. Removing the balls should allow the bike to shift beyond N to 2nd at a stop, but old timers always train you to find N before coming to a complete stop because they grew up in a time where tranny's did not sync or mesh like they do now a days. You start slamming the shift lever around searching for N at a stop while the gears are still rotating makes some old people cringe.

Hi guys,

I posed this thread, http://www.bikeland.org/board/viewthread.php?FID=27&TID=78103&set_time=1425872404 ,
Could these balls in the "Positive Neutral Finder Mechanism" be part of my issue? I am unsure if they could affect the bike not wanting to shift smoothly from 3-4 without the clutch...

Doubt it. Once in 2nd the balls have no effect from there on.
