Loring 2011 / Popham Lobster fest

I'd like to thank everyone who attended the 2011 Lobster fest at Popham Beach Maine this year. We enjoyed seeing everyone after the Loring race and meeting the new folks.

I believe we had over 40 this year!!!

There were a bunch of folks that couldn't make it this year due to the track rental on Monday but theres always next year.

After haring Richard Gadson at the lobster fest I think he is hooked and will be doing more land speed racing in the future.

Congratulations to Karl for bumping Doug Meyer's record set on Karl's bike in 2009 and also to Bill and Charlie.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to chat with everyone as much as I wanted to but the
Lobsters, steamed clams and chowda at Spinneys was great!

Jaime and I are looking forward to having everyone over again next year!!!!

Hey Ollie, what is going on??!!

Not "good" time, Great times.
Big plus that Rickey came back with wife, kids, Lil Richard. Fun folks to spend the day with away from the track.

Richard says he is hooked, definitely going to do more LSR

One of these days you need to make a Mile event. This sport is growing rapidly and new developments are happening often, e.g. Bill Warner's 311.

Come on out and bring a bike, not just a camera and notepad.

Yea we did run the zx14, but hurt the motor..... not sure whats up yet until I get back to the shop on Tuesday, but probable #3 rod bearing issue. It didn't blow up or anything but its gotta come apart.

Its a 1570 stroker motor and were reving it to just under 12,000 rpm making peak power at about 11,700-11,800 rpm.

Its the only way to get a 1570 to make the power of a 1650 busa motor. But its very hard on the parts making 270+ hp at close to 12,000 rpm.

Were going to have to figure out how to make it live for 1.5 miles at 11,800 rpm. not an easy task. The zx14 has much shorter rods than a Busa and rod angularity and rod stroke ratio is an issue. but its not going to be easy or cheep to change the math due to the one piece block.

Hi Jim, my first guess would be detonation if it's a rod bearing. But if the balancers or remove it makes me wonder if they will "1570" hold together with the extra vibration under that type of run for a mile and a half especially with RPMs extended. It's not anything I know just something I was wondering about.

Hey Karl, guess it's been a while since I've seen you I think buddy's funeral was the last time I saw you. Good to see you again and your family. Next time we go to Houston for a grudge race I will PM you if you like.

Jim,
did you pull all 4 plugs? are any of the other electrodes hurt?

At one point in my 12's build sequence i went with a bit higher domes, ran the pistons into the plugs just a bit. Thought it was rod bearing

Even if it is a rod bearing, you might want to get different (shorter) plugs. Seems like you might be too close.

Thank you Jim for the hospitality of you and Jaime. It was a blast and I look forward to next year.

I would love to see your bike run to its capabilities soon. Are you going up in September? I won't make it, but am planning on Mojave and Texas in October. Hope to better my 223.4 mph on the 14.

Would be cool to see you down at the Texas Mile one of these days.
