mac swingarm installation rant and maybe help
We have installed the arm and it does not go together like the stock arm at the adjusting collar.
Did that bother any of you guys? We were pissed thinking they gave us the wrong arm.

No, it did not. It came totally smooth. The caliper part that slides on the part inside the stock swingarm to keep it in place is not there. There was a weird long extension that came with the arm that we found can mount under the arm and if we used a longer caliper bolt than the stock one then it works instead of the non existing caliper arm that is on the stocker. So the caliper is holding onto nothing now inside the arm.
Then the installation up at the front of the arm is 100% different than stock as well.
Here is 3 pictures of the front of the arm. It's nothing like the stock. This is the only way we could get it on. The giant threaded collar doesn't fit into the hole, just the axle, unlike the stocker. So what you see here is the arm all the way to the left with the big threaded collar being pushed/torqued against the swingarm. Very stiff and works, but is kind of retarded. I don't know why it's just not like my stocker set-up. Should've came with instructions since nothing was the same.

Nick you don't TQ the collar ... You just run the collar in till it takes the slack out , Then thighten the locking bolt .. You are over thighting the adjustment collar and that will bind the swing arm .. The brake rod you got with the arm is your new brake stay .. Just get a longer caliper bolt and you are done .. I see from the pictures you have it installed right , but you over TQ the collar and caused the arm to bind up ..

Here is how i set mine ... Run the collar in till you remove any side to side play , You can add a tiny bit of preload as long ad the arm is free up and down ... Now TQ the bolt and nut to factory spec .. Recheck arm to make sure it is not in a bind .. If there is a bind back off the locking collar just a bit and rethighten the bolt to factory spec ... Now take the outside locking collar and thighten it and you are done .. This arm doesn't use roller bearings and seals like your old arm so the collar doesnt go into a seal like it did before .. There is Nothing wrong with it , it's just different from factory style .. You need the brake rod because you new arm has much more range than your old arm .. If it used a factory block for the brake stay you could NOT get full range that the arm offers ...The new brake stay works just fine so don't sweat it ..

Thanks smokin, this is my first aftermarket arm. Looks like I did it right. I wasn't expecting such a different installation but I understand why it's like that now that I thought about it more.

If that swingarm collar and the motor mount collar are over tightened, it can spread the frame spars and cause frame breakage....remember the recal and old posts of it from 06 or 07.... I think 12 ft lbsis what it calls for preload in the manual

We used all torque specs within the zx14 manual. We never had any binding or issues. We were mostly concerned about how it's suppose to be installed correctly since it's done differently than stock and had no instructions.
