a couple of zx14 questions? Hey guys in in the process of buying a 2006 zx14 for the strip, I'm making the transition from a zx10. I have a few questions about them.
1. How reliable were the motors in 2006? Reason I'm asking is the one I'm buying has 23,000 miles on it.
2. The bike has stock pipes WITH a power commander, Can i run the bike with the stock mufflers removed and pick up some power until I can get a full system??
3. Are there any issues with the 2006 bikes in general?
I had a lot more questions but I'm drawing a blank right now, so I will update the thread as I have more questions. This thread my also turn into a build thread in the future, and I will keep it updated with how fast I can get this bike to go with certain mods.

$4900, I know the guy , the bike has been a commuter its whole life with the occasional trip to the track. It's mostly stock with lowering links, power commander, manual CCT, and braided lines.
Seems like a decent price to me, just has a lot of miles on it, but my zx-10r has spent most of its life at the track and has 20,000 on it and runs like a champ. I can't really find any info on how solid these motors are...

I wish I could, wife told me the only way I can get another bike is to sell my zx10, so I sold it for 5,300 and am using that money for the zx14. The bike will likely never be tagged, as it will be a race bike only.

Come on cody. You know you could ask me. lol
You could remove the pipes, but the mufflers dont bolt onto the mid pipes like a lot of bikes. You'd have to remove them where they attach to the header, directly under the bike. It'll be loud but at least you wont have to worry about the ugly stock pipes lol.
Motors were good in 06. There have been quite a few spun bearings but i think it's been spread throughout the years. If you ever blow through a clutch change the oil and you'll be fine.
Put a strap on it, remove the secondaries, and go run 9.50. Get with mark huckabee i think he has a set of extensions in his shop. But im running 9.50 swb i think you should tooo!

Well I have an 06 with 80,536 hard miles on it and the only issues with the bike were the front brake rotors warping on my at around 15,000 miles , and the Cam chain tensioner failing at 50,000.
No other problems period.

I wouod, but I'm going to be keeping it in Oklahoma, that way I don't have to trailer it down once a month for the races.... Fuel prices are ridiculous.

There seems to become bikes that struggle with spinning rod bearings, but they seem to be isolated and early on in the bikes life. My 06 has 12k miles, and when I recently pulled the head, the motor looked new. The cylinders still had the factory Honing marks. There weren't any vertical scars. I'd say it's a very reliable bike.
2.) yes, I ran my bike with several full systems, and I trapped the same or better with the stock header as I did with the Brocks sidewinder. I'd savefor a Brocks street system or muzzy m14.

Well, I didnt end up buying the bike I originally was looking at, BUT I found one with the same amount of miles, with a pipe, pc3, already lowered for about the same price. Picking it up on Sunday, my goal is to run a 9.50 index class, as it sits, with some seat time.

Awesome, thanks guys. I'm picking it up on Sunday. It will be extended about 8 inches and I'm going to go with 16 42 gearing, will that be enough?

Wasn't there a recall on early bikes to check for a cracked frame? I don't think there were many but at least check that this has been done.
