quick yea or nay for Vesrah pads on street

I am doing my 1st track day in 2 days. I have ~1mm of ware bar left on my OEM pads (viewed from the edge I can see easily without taking the pads out). It is a road course; not a drag strip but I imagine the ware on the pads will be about the same as a day at the dragstrip??????

Vesrah pads were highly recommended to me for track use. They are not cheap and the bike sees almost 10,000 miles of street use/year. Will the Vesrahs perform at least as good as stock pads on the street? I have heard that some race brake pads glaze or are otherwise inferior if they are not hot as they would be on track.

Is road racing a 14 comparable to drag racing a 250 ninja?

There are a lot of bikes less up to the task. I doubt if a smaller bike would make me even 8 seconds/lap faster at this point. 8 seconds would mean a lot to me in drag run but for road racing where the laps are a few minutes each, 8 seconds is nothing. If I get into it enough, I will consider buying a used track bike. then I will be concerned about 8 seconds.

Your talking $142.85 (from Schnitz web site) for the EBC HH Pads
or $270.00 For the Vesrah pads. I think that should be a no brainer since the 14's breaking system is good to begin with.

Unless you just have money to piss away and want to make your self feel special enough to lick windows.

Go with the EBCs . . . . I had em on my 14 and were great !

I also converted my ZRX to radial calipers (ZX14) and have the EBCs in them as well.

Rook,
You would need the RJL's as they are the shit but, Vesrah doesn't make them for the 14. The SRJL's are the the bomb on the track but, dangerous on the street as you can not produce enough heat on the street for them to work properly. Last, the JL's, IMO, are not as good as the OEM pads.

Go with the EBC HH pads they are the best for fast road & track bike. Also I find sets on ebay for $50 (both sides, 8 pads) once in a while. I buy a spare set when I see them as I usually wear them out in 10-12k miles.

lol I just turned 27,000 miles tonight and I still have some life left in the orifinal pads! I don't normally brake hard unless it is an emergency and i think my first track excursion will be the same. I will be at high rpm the whole time and it seems likely that engine breaking will be enough with a little touch of brake now and then. I guess I don't know what to expect but I know I am going to need some new pads soon. I'l go with EBC HH.

Thanks for all the info, especially the Vesrah details from Cutback---streetability is exactly what I was wondering about..

I had a look at the pads and they still show marker after some pretty brutal braking. I don't think the rotors got all that hot. It was 10-15 minutes after the session but the rotors on the front felt just barely warm. I woulda never guessed. The tire, that took a beating.

As far as road racing capability of the 14, I was able to stay in front of the entire pack of other novice class riders 9literbikes and 600s)as long as I gave it my all. Here is a vid. You'll see the rear end squirm on down shifts and braking. I discovered the difference between street tire pressure and track tire pressure. One of the expert riders dropped 10 lbs out of front and rear and that stopped the slipping.
