The link refers to guys fitting the 14 engine in off-road buggies.
Violent off-road lateral shocks would trigger the sensor.
As to why we would want to bypass it................???

This a good mod if you want your bike to keep running after a crash, as it lays on it's side. For those who never plan to crash, no worries.

maybe the tracks out east don't require kill teathers .. as far as crashing on the highway . i don't think you gonna be too worried about your bike turning off ..

Yeah, they do require kill tethers...but I've seen the clips pop and the bikes slide hundreds of feet and keep running on their side, potentially starving the pick up. Having the switch is a little bit of extra insurance, especially on the street. I mean, if it makes you happy...do it...but I can't see a good reason for most people.

I wonder if that will work on my ATV? It cuts out from the tip over switch if the bumps get rough.

clips popping .. bikes sliding hundreds of feet , pick-ups starving for oil ..WOW i wonder what kill the engines for the last 50 years until they came out with vehicle down sensors.. Amazing .

I'VE seen more bikes die from owner stupidity on utube in 1 day than in 5 years at the track because of tip over sensors ..but when you live in the sticks and you don't have a week to wait on delivery of your new part ..or a handy dealership that just happen to carry 1 .. .. its nice to know a person can bypass it to get by..

Well, in our case I had the motor checked out for bearing damage. 220 mph is not really when you want to find out that it is hurt.

This is the crash in question; the bike slid 1300 feet and was still running a couple minutes later when they got to it...

The tipover switch had been defeated by a prior owner, unfortunately. The Limestone FD happened to be taking that video at the time.

OK
so what you saying .. i'm not telling you not to run a tip over sensor .. because from the looks of things some peoples needs them ..I'M telling zx14 owners how to get rid of it if they want to .. like when KHI had the recall on them .. the buzzy dash thing.. in case its broken .. heres a fix ..

do a search look at how many people bitched about the tip over sensor

That's cool...and I'm telling people why they might want to think twice before they defeat it.

your was on a busa .. and almost all busa owners will tell you being its located under the battery what a PITA ..

i can't tell you how many busa owners taught they had a fueling issue because the TOS was dangling by 1 hook and unlevel .. but level enough to run but when launched it fell flat and almost wreck them ..

I'm more looking at the principle and the purpose it serves. A lot of people have this thought that when the bike flips over violently it is just going to stop running. That was more likely to happen back when bikes had carbs...but never guaranteed.

and i can tell you .. take your tip over sensor hold it in your hand with bike idling .. and rotate it 180 but i do 360 degrees and see if the zx14 dies .. i've found alot of them that didn't kill the bike .. its up to the owner to make sure it works to begin with ..in my case the wreck bike i have does not have 1 at all and the fuel pump is off .. i need a fix to get it going before bikebandit can get me 1 in 10 days ..

Yeah, I can understand that. I'm chasing an issue on a GSXR right now...I thought I killed the pump with MR9. But I seem to recall the pump not cycling up last year once...and I am going to be checking that switch before I go any further.

Like you say, it's up to the owner to verify it works...that was my own dumb mistake on the Busa. I wish it had worked $$$, but I never even gave it a thought....and it turned out to be defeated for the reasons you mentioned earlier.

well i can tell you a zx12 tip over sensor even when wire up by wiring functions don't cross to a zx14 .. it turn the fuel pump on but not fire the injectors ..

I suppose that it will bite me in the a~~ sooner or later but we still run the factory TOS on our ZX-14 powered TG chassis bike. It's just a little more insurance if the bike should crash that the engine would turn off as well as the fuel pump. jes my .o2
