Valves ticking 09 ZX 14 15000 KM
Hey guys, iv been riding my 09 ZX14 the last few days. I started to notice a ticking sound coming from the top end of the motor. I just installed a muzzy M14 SS Oval
Pipe at about the same time as the noise started to happen.
Is it a exhaust leak or is it my valves? I installed new gaskets for the header.
What's the valve adjustment specs???
Vic thx.

If it started when you installed the pipe I'd bet you got a leak. I hold the gaskets in place with grease so they don't move/ fall. Recheck that they are all torqued down right.

I think your right lol. I happen to have a second set of gaskets. So I'm going to pull the exhaust system back off and reinstall with new gaskets .
Hope that's all it is. Also I bought the bike second hand so I also changed the oil from mineral to Kawasaki synthetic 10W40
All keep you posted on my findings
Thx

No need to replace the gaskets yet, first retorque the flange nuts and see if that doesnt help - if not, then replace the gaskets

Well I relplaced the gaskets and reinstalled the exhaust system.
There was anexhaust leak. The bikes much better now thank goodness, mind you it does have a little valve train noise when I decelerate. I'm thinking I should try 20W50 instead of the 10W40 synthetic and see if that has any effect.

I think you are being waaaaaaaaay oversensitive to mechanical noises. Put the recommended type and amount of oil in it and ride it. FWIW...I've swapped exausts many times and reused gaskets with no issues.

You guys are right, I'm over thinking. Lol! Anyway I went for a ride last night. My bike performed well. Iv had a lot of bikes in my day and I can honestly say iv taken them all to top speed many times.
Last night I was on the highwcradling 100KPH, 60MPH and thought I'd giver a little. I shifted down to fourth and opened. Up the fuel.
Wow , I was at 260KPH or about 170MPH by the time I hit red line in fourth! this seemed to all happen in about 4 seconds LMAO! I love this bike!!!!

Kawi's are funny like that with engine noises. When I went from my 01' CBR1100XX (engine noise was like a sewing machine) to the ZX,,,, I thought that there might have been something loose in the engine of the ZX, but nope, just normal Kawasaki sounds. It took some getting used to. If the Honda ever made sounds like the ZX does, I'd have the engine out of it really quickly.

My next step really quieted the valve train right down. I bought a bottle of Lucas synthetic oil stabilizer, drained a quart of the 10w40 synthetic oil. replaced it with a quart of lucas stabilizer.
Lucas synthetic oil stabilizer is a excellent product, it just works!

That stuff is thick, mostly for old worn engines. Hopefully your clutch doesn't slip or stick together from it. Let us know if it causes any issues.

Hey zixxer14. Your probably thinking of the non synthetic stabilizer from Lucas, the synthetic Lucas stablizer flows like 10W40.
