A/F mapping assistance
After experiencing catastrophic failure of my motor last summer, I am finally ready to put the bike back together this weekend. I've added a few modified parts and will be in need of a new fuel map.The only place I can go to in my area is at the local Harley Davidson dealership. They have assured me that they can perform the job so I'll cross my fingers and try.
I'm seeking some knowledge before I go so I can try to determine if the tuning session is going successfully. First, I understand (maybe incorrectly) that a map can be made to a specific A/F ratio or for "best HP". What ratio should I aim for for maimum fuel economy, but without robbing all power, for just enjoying a day ride? Second, when I go the "max HP" route to compete at the track, what A/F ratio do I start to be concerned about where the bike is getting too lean and potentially causing damage - I certainly cannot afford to rebuild again!
Thanks in advance for your input

Try 13:1 a/f for the street, and around 12.7 - 12.8:1 for drag racing. I'm not an expert, but it works for me.
If you are really concerned about doing this right, I wouldn't be taking it to the local HD shop for tuning. Take it to someone who makes a living tuning Japanese Sport Bikes.
If you have a Brock's exhaust, just use his maps, and save yourself the troubles.
Just my .02.

If a Japanese shop was available I'd be there!
I have Brock's maps for various applications, but am looking for something specific for the modifications added during the rebuild

Race maps are mainly changed at 100% throttle, which you don't use on the street very much.
So you could really have the map set up for both.
Like said above, what are the mods that stop you from using brocks maps?

My impression has always been that Brock can make a map for most common motor mods that is really close.

When chris jones tuned my bike he used the brocks map as the base map, and just took a little fuel out of the 100% column.
