Drag Racing only?

Hello,
I'm a proud owner of a 04 ZX12, 06 ZX14, 08 ZX10 and a 11 ZX14. I've done most of my riding in Europe and I'm very curious to find out if this forum is just for drag racers or if there are any threads that talk about riding ZX14s on something other than just a drag strip?
I mean no disrespect to all of the drag racers out there, but are there any other riders like myself on here that have tuned aftermarket suspension setups for real sport touring on their ZX14? I've met lots of riders on 600's and 1000s in the canyons and embarrassed them on my ZX14. Anyone else on here doing the same type of riding?

El Vulch,

Not all on this site drag race, but the drag racers tend to dominate the current threads. Most of the things you are looking for are probably from 2006 to 2009 when the bike was newer. There are many like us that ride there 14s as caynon carvers and sport tourers.

You'll see some of my modifications on my bike in my signature. I'd love to have a new suspension front and rear, but don't want to spend the money for it. The lighter weight wheels and a full exhaust/pc are by far the best investments in power and handling that I have made.

There are many that have gone with risers, different seats, etc, for more comfortable touring. I'm 6' 6" and 220 lbs and my bike is set up at the stock dimensions including my adjustable foot pegs.

Im a cayons only.My bike is setup for canyons.Shorter wheel base bst wheels power one track tires and about 60 lbs off the 14 so far.For me lowering the forks 10 mm adding a 43 rear sprocket and a akrapovic exhaust with bst wheels will do wonders for the twistys.

Cool El Vulch
Im happy with the scotts damper it made more a of difference in the small bumps in the real tight stuff then I thought it would it made the bike much smoother. How do you like ohlins internals?Thats something I have been wanting to look into.I here it takes a few pounds of the stock forks did you get a chance the weigh the diff yourself?

I haven't got the chance to weigh my bike yet, but the Öhlins parts did wonders for my bike. No more dive in the front end like it was with the stock springs. I'm 6'2"/ 210 and set my sag @ 3.5" and it works perfect. I have 58k miles on my 06, so I'm thinking about tearing it down and putting a big bore kit in it. As for the 2011 14, I'm going to swap most of the go fast parts over to it. Not sure what type of fuel/ ign. controller I'm going to run in it though.

Very nice. I'd love to add the Ohlins internals in the front and a new rear shock with spring. You are definitely putting in the miles on your bike. I wish I had more time to ride, but I only get out for a few hours about once a week. I have 10K miles on mine. I'd love to have the BSTs, but I got the Carrozzeria's from Brock's Performance before he started carrying them. I can't justify the difference getting anything new at this point.

Please post some picks. I'm sure you can find many pics of my bike on this site with its black and gold (wheels, rearsets, Pazzos, GPR) combination.

My 2009 14 is my all around skoot. I am starting to ride it back and forth to work as it's 38+ mpg beats the 14-15 of my Tundra.
We are headin up to the mountains this summer for some real ridin. South Florida leaves ALOT to be desired for ridin.

Did a 1427 mile trip for the New Year....

I do miss my 2006. It had all the goodies on it and i too embarassed kiddies on their 600's. Unfortunately a riding buddy center punched me in a corner and with all the medical bills and repairs( no insurance for either of us) i had to let it go. I miss it alot!!

Good to share info with like minded 14 owners.

I've never ran my 14 down a strip, and most likely never will.
I love twisty roads and roadcourses too much to stretch my bike

I took off another eight lbs or so with the pulse battery.Im working on taking more weight off I dont really need anymore hp the last time I had it on the dyno it pulled 176 hp. the only mods I have is a pc 5 knn air filter akrapovic full system no flys removed california smog with block off plates.the flys and smog plates didnt make any gains. The guys I ride with are all super bike school junkys and track-canyon rats so I spend most of my efforts learning from them and tweaking on suspension.I have an old friend thats an awesome machinist and were trying to figure a way to get the fuel lower in the frame at least a few gallons, the idea is to leave the last three gallons or so out of the top of the tank and that should help in the tight stuff. Not sure if this idea will require a lift pump or not.

I've never taken my bike to the dragstrip. I live in sw Fl, where most the roads are straight. With that said, I have found the best curves in the area and love taking the 14 around these turns. I have no chicken strips and have a new set of fork springs and a new spring for my shock ready to go in. I'm a stocky guy 5'8"@215lbs. The 14 fits me well and I like muscling the bike around, I'm about to start cutting weight off the bike. Maybe we should start a thread about the various methods to take weight off the 14 ; )

Shanes thread covers most of what you can do to reduce weight. Im working now on a single light front fairing and some sub frame work.I will post a few pics when im done.
